HomeMy WebLinkAbout20273 - RESOLUTIONS - 2/6/2002 RESOLUTION NO. 20273 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE ALLOWANCE OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO FAIL TO SERVE THE MINIMUM PERIOD OF TIME NECESSARY TO RECEIVE CITY PROVIDED HEALTH INSURANCE WITH THE ABILITY TO PURCHASE GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE THROUGH PERS HEALTH PLANS FROM THE CITY AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE CITY. WHEREAS Resolution 18297 established that the City of Palm Springs, as a statutorily defined Special District, elected to be subject to the Public Employees' Medical and Hospital Care Act (the "Act") whereby members of the City Council could be covered for group health coverage under the PERS Health Plans; and WHEREAS Resolution 18297 assured continued medical and hospital insurance coverage for Council Members consistent with the City's long standing practices, enabling PERS to correct a technical error in it's processing of Council Member enrollment, and did not provide Council Members with any other or new retirement or other benefits offered through the Public Employees' Retirement System; and WHEREAS The City of Palm Springs, can establish eligibility requirements for members of the ' City Council, as Special District employees; and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, that City Council members who fail to serve the minimum period of time necessary to receive City provided health insurance with the ability to purchase group health insurance through PERS Health Plans from the City at no additional cost to the City.
