HomeMy WebLinkAbout20183 - RESOLUTIONS - 9/19/2001 RESOLUTION NO. 20183 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF , PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING OVERTIME COMPENSATION FOR ALL AIRPORT EMPLOYEES IN RELATION TO ANY SPECIAL DUTIES REQUIRED BY FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION SPECIAL SECURITY DIRECTIVES UP TO A MAXIMUM OF $50,000. WHEREAS, Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001, terrorists struck New 'York and Washington, D.C. utilizing hijacked airlines as weapons of mass destruction; and WHEREAS the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) immediately shut down the entire United States airspace; and WHEREAS the FAA quickly moved all airports to Level IV security (highest security level) and issued a broad list of special security mandates which must be implemented prior to the airport reopening; and WHEREAS many of the new security measures require higher presence levels of uniformed airport employees and those levels of personnel with eyes and ears familiar with the airport ' environs are beyond the normal man hours available; and WHEREAS the Airport's Airline and Use Agreement requires that the airlines reimburse the Airport for any extraordinary costs mandated by FAA orders and an offsetting budget amendment will be processed to reflect the increased revenues from the airlines, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that overtime compensation for all Airport employees required to work beyond their normal 80 hours per pay period to provide services necessitated by the mandated security increases is hereby authorized up to a maximum of $50,000. ADOPTED this 19th day of September, 2001.
