HomeMy WebLinkAbout19416 - RESOLUTIONS - 12/2/1998 RESOLUTION NO. 19416 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING AN AIRPORT NAME CHANGE TO "PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT." WHEREAS the City of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley depend heavily on tourism for the vitality of the local economy; and WHEREAS meeting planners throughout the world are making their recommendations for destination based on, among other things, the type and amount of air service to the area; and WHEREAS Palm Springs Regional Airport is the only airport on the west coast with a Customs User Fee program and is presently served by one U.S. Carrier operating international flights to Canada; and WHEREAS Palm Springs Regional Airport is the only air-carrier airport serving Riverside County with Customs facilities and international flight activity; and WHEREAS the Airport Commission, at its meeting of October 21, 1998, recommended by acclamation that the Airport name reflects the true nature of the Airport - International, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, as follows: That the name of the Airport in Palm Springs,presently the "Palm Springs Regional Airport," shall officially change to the 'PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT" concurrent with the arrival of the first non-stop Vancouver Alaska Airlines flight expected in mid-December 1998. ADOPTED this 2nd day of December , 1998.
