HomeMy WebLinkAbout19249 - RESOLUTIONS - 5/6/1998 RESOLUTION NO. 19249 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF ' SECURING FEDERAL COMNIUNICATIONS COMMISSION (FCC) APPROVAL FOP. A UNIFORM LOCAL TELEPHONE CALLING AREA, WITHIN THE COACHELLA VALLEY WHEREAS the City of Palm Springs hereinafter referred to as "City," is located within the region of California referred to as the Coachella Valley; and WHEREAS Coachella Valley cities share geographic proximity; and WHEREAS residents of some cities do not have to pay telephone long distance rates for making calls within the Coachella Valley, while other residents, perhaps only a few blocks away, must pay long distance rates for the same call; and WHEREAS the City believes that all residents of the Coachella Valley should have uniform local calling area rates for the entire valley. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs as follows: Section 1. That a uniform local telephone calling area rate structure be developed, ' approved and implemented for the Coachella Valley. Section 2. That a copy of this Resolution accompany a letter to the FCC, Congresswoman Mary Bono and the President of GTE Telephone Operations for California asking for their assistance, support and approval of this request. ADOPTED this 6th day of May 1998.
