HomeMy WebLinkAbout19017 - RESOLUTIONS - 4/16/1997 RESOLUTION NO. 19017 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING THE NUMBER OF RESIDENTS OF THE CITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERMINING THE VOLUNTARY EXPENDITURE CEILING FOR CITY ELECTIONS. ' WHEREAS the California Political Reform Act of 1996 passed by the voters as Proposition 208 on November 5, 1996, permits cities to establish voluntary expenditure ceilings for candidates for elective office and the controlled committees of such candidates; and WHEREAS pursuant to California Government Code Section 85400 (c), by Ord 1544 the City Council amended the Palm Springs Municipal Code by adding Section 2.04.100 thereto, to establish a local voluntary expenditure ceiling in an amount not to exceed one dollar ($1.00) per resident of the jurisdiction, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, that pursuant to Section 2.04.100 a) of said Municipal Code, for purposes of the November, 1997 municipal election, the City Council hereby finds that there are 41,702 residents of the City of Palm Springs, as reflected in the most recent data provided by the California Department of Finance, and therefore the amount of the voluntary expenditure ceiling for campaigns for city elective office at said election is $41,702 per election.
