HomeMy WebLinkAbout18865 - RESOLUTIONS - 7/17/1996 .ce�zlfccc �- Z�a- - 9�— _ a2 Z ( RESOLUTION NO. 18865 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, DESIGNATING T'HE KAUFMANN-LIARRIS RESIDENCE AS A CLASS 1 HISTORIC SITE. WHEREAS the Kaufmann-Harris Residence has contributed substantially to the historic architectural diversity of the City of Palm Springs; and WHEREAS the Kaufmann-Harris Residence has long been a landmark of the City of Palm Springs for residents, architectural students and visitors; and WHEREAS the Palm Springs General Plan provides for the long-term preservation of significant architectural and historic buildings; and WHEREAS Chapter 8.05 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code provides for the designation of historic sites; and WHEREAS on July 25, 1995, the Historic Site Preservation Board held a public hearing to recommend the designation of the Kaufmann-Harris Residence as an historic site and unanimously recommends to the City Council designation of said property as a Class 1 Historic Site; and WHEREAS the City Council concurs in the recommendation of the Historic Site Preservation Board regarding the historic value of the Kaufmann-Harris Residence; , and WHEREAS the designation of the Kaufmann-Harris Residence shall further the purposes and intent of the General Plan and Chapter 8.05 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code; and WHEREAS the designation of the Kaufmann-Harris Residence shall promote the sensitive preservation and restoration of said site. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Pahn Springs, California, as follows: Section 1. The Kaufmann-Harris Residence was constructed in 1946-47 and has since contributed to the historic architectural diversity of the City of Palm Springs. Section 2. The Kaufmann-]Harris Residence is an excellent example of the International architectural style in the City of Palm Springs designed by the renowned architect Richard Neutra. Section 3. The Kaufmann-Harris Residence, owned by Brent & Beth Harris ' ("Owners'), and located at 470 W. Vista Chino, shall be designated as a Class 1 Historic Site pursuant to Chapter 8.05 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code.. The site is located on Lots 11 Sr 12, and a portion of Lots 1 & 2, of Chino Canyon Mesa Tract No. 3, as recorded at Page 54 of Map Book 20, Riverside County, California; APN 504-292-018. Section 4. No permit for the exterior alteration to the Kaufmann-Harris Residence shall be granted without the prior approval of the Historic ► lv) so r rwkswa R18865 C, Z Page 2 Site Preservation Board and/or the City Council, pursuant to Chapter 8.05 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code; approved alterations shall maintain the historic architectural integrity of the building. Section 5. The Owners shall permit the City to demark the Kaufmann-Harris Residence as an historic site with a plaque of the City's choosing. ' Section 6. The Owners shall enter into a historic preservation (Mills Act) agreement with the City in a form approved by the City Attorney. Section 7. This resolution, and the historic designation put in place by it, shall not affect title to the property. Section 8. The City Council hereby directs the City Clerk to submit this resolution to the county recorder for recordation within 90 days of the effective date of this resolution.
