HomeMy WebLinkAbout18795 - RESOLUTIONS - 3/20/1996 RESOLUTION NO. 18795 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING ITS OPPOSITION TO "THE MOBILEFIOME FAIRNESS AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE ACT" (PROPOSITION 199) , WHEREAS mobilehome park owners have obtained the required number of signatures to qualify the statewide initiative measure known as "The Mobilehome Fairness and Rental Assistance Act" (the "Act") for the March 26, 1996 ballot as Proposition 199; and WHEREAS the City Council believes the name of the Act is misleading and misrepresents [lie true intent of the Act; and WHEREAS the Act, if passed by the voters, would take away current mobilchome rent control protections; and WHEREAS the Act would be contrary to the best interest of those residing in mobillehome parks as well as all future residents of mobilehome parks; and WHEREAS the City Council desires to reaffirm its opposition to this initiative measure as it had previously done in Resolution No. 18667 on July 19, 1995. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, that it hereby reaffirms its opposition to the initiative measure titled "The Mobilehome Fairness and Rental Assistance Act" appearing as Proposition 199 on the March 26, 1996 statewide ballot because it appears to be misleading and would limit, and ultimately remove, local and state mobilehome rent control laws. ADOPTED this 20th day of_ March 1995.
