HomeMy WebLinkAbout18684 - RESOLUTIONS - 9/6/1995 RESOLUTION NO. 18684 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, DESIGNATING THE WILLIAM & "MOUSIE" POWELL RESIDENCE AS A CLASS 2 HISTORIC SITE. WHEREAS the William & "Mousie" Powell Residence (Powell Residence) and its associated personages have contributed substantially to the history of the City of Palm Springs; and WHEREAS the Powell Residence has been the center of activity for its famous residents and their guests for about 55 years;. and WHEREAS the Powell Residence has been sensitively maintained, and its alterations have been made, to preserve its historic character; and WHEREAS Chapter 8 . 05 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code allows for the designation of historic sites; and WHEREAS on July 18, 1995, the Historic Site Preservation Board (HSPB) held a public hearing regarding the designation of the Powell Residence as an historic site and unanimously recommended to the City Council designation of said property as a Class 2 Historic Site; and WHEREAS the City Council concurs in the recommendation of the RSPB regarding the historic value of the Powell Residence; and WHEREAS the designation of the Powell Residence shall further the purposes and intent of Chapter 8 . 05 of the Municipal Code, and the Historic Resources Section of the General Plan; and WHEREAS the designation of the Powell Residence shall promote the sensitive preservation and restoration of said site and the Las Palmas Estates neighborhood. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, as follows: Section 1. The Powell Residence, located at: 383 Ver_eda Norte, shall be designated a Class 2 Historic Site pursuant to Chapter 8 . 05 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code. The site is located on Lot 5, Block L Las Palmas Estates as recorded at Pages 15-16 of Map Book 15, Riverside County, California; APN 505-192-004 . Section 2 . A plaque demark:ing the Powell Residence as an historic site may be installed by the City. ADOPTED this 6th day of _ September , 1995 .
