OF 'THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM
SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THli CITY'S
CONTINUED INVOLVEMENT IN PALM SPRINGS .IN
ACTION, A LIEAL'PHY CITY PROJECT, DESIGNATING
STAFU TO COLLABORATE WITH THL COMMUNITY TO
ACCOMPLISH GOALS PLRTAINING TO COMMUNDUY
SAFETY AND ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION

3 WHEREAS, tite City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California continues to
_ place a high priority on inrprwving the quality of life for all the citizens of the City; and '

WHEREAS, quality of life is largely influencer) try the physical, social, and econonnic
conditions in the community anti therefor efforts to improve quality of life tltust be broad in
scope to include all aspects of the enviromnent; and
WHEREAS, success will depend on collaborative efforts of the public, private, mid
voluntary sectors; and
WHEREAS, the State Dcpartuicnt of Health Service is tine first stale health agency in
the nation to spearhead an effort to hnprove V0e 11e�ilh status of all Crrlil'ornians through an
innovative public henlitt project unlined the California healthy Cities Project; and
WHEREAS, during its first year, Paint Springs in Action successfully engaged the
conununity in developing a vision for the future of Pahn Spilups, evaluated quality of life ht
Pales Springs to identify trends and areas of need, decided prlo ities by consensus and
created projects to address those priorities,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE LP RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Palm
Springs, California, as follows:
Section 1: Continues to support the California Healthy Cities Project and '
Pales ,Springs in Action! as a means of gaining broad citizen
panlicilrrtion in collahoralive problem solving and amsensus-
baaed decision-making for the development of new strategies for
etilrancetnent of quality of life for the citizens of Paint Springs.
Section 2: Designates the Director of the department of Economic
development as liaison between the City of Palm Springs and
Paint Springs in Action!.
Section 3: That the focus of the I'ahn Springs in Action projects this year
will be community safety and econornie development.
ADOPTED this 19th day of_July , 1995.
