HomeMy WebLinkAbout18372 - RESOLUTIONS - 4/20/1994 RESOLUTION NO. 18372 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE CITY'S INVOLVEMENT IN THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHY CITIES PROGRAM, DESIGNATING STAFF TO COORDINATE THE ' PROGRAM EFFORTS, AND GIVING DIRECTION TOWARDS THE CITY'S FIRST HEALTHY CITY PROJECT WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, has placed a high priority on improving the quality of life for all the citizens of the City; and WHEREAS, quality of life is largely influenced by the physical, social, and economic conditions in the community and therefor efforts to improve quality of life must be broad in scope to include all aspects of the environment; and WHEREAS, success will depend on coordinated efforts of the public, private, and voluntary sectors; and WHEREAS, the State Department of Health Service is the first state health agency in the nation to spearhead an effort to improve the health status of all Californians through an innovative public health project entitled the California Healthy Cities Project, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, as follows: Section 1: Supports the California Healthy Cities Program as a means of gaining broad citizen participation in collaborative problem solving and consensus-based decision-making for the development of new strategies and tools for enhancement of the quality of life for the citizens of the Palm Springs Community. Section 2 : That the City will support a Palm Springs Healthy City Project and hereby designates the Director of the Department of Economic Development as liaison between the City of Palm Springs and the Palm Springs Healthy city Project. Section 3 : That the first project of the Palm Springs Healthy City Project will be to gain community consensus for a vision of health for Palm Springs and key areas for redirecting the future of health in Palm Springs.
