HomeMy WebLinkAbout18290 - RESOLUTIONS - 2/2/1994 RESOLUTION NO. 18290 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, RECOMMENDING APPROVAL OF SUBSTANTIAL CONFORMANCE #4 - COMMERCIAL WECS PERMIT #24 OF RIVERSIDE COUNTY. ' WHEREAS Wintec Ltd. is proposing to redevelop its wind energy project, from 177 existing turbines to 16 turbines with a total height of 178 feet, under Substantial Conformance #4, Commercial WECS Permit #24 of Riverside County; and WHEREAS the wind industry has experienced many changes and improvements in technology since Riverside County approved Commercial WECS Permit #24 in 1984, which allow larger, but significantly fewer, machines to produce an equivalent amount of power; and WHEREAS the City of Palm Springs is considering Annexation #26 which would encompass the affected project if approved; and WHEREAS the City of Palm Springs is correspondingly considering the adoption of new ordinances to govern the development of wind energy projects should Annexation #26 be approved; and WHEREAS the current draft of such ordinances would permit a total wind energy machine height of 200 feet; and WHEREAS the application for Substantial Conformance #4, Commercial %ECS Permit #24 is consistent with the proposed ordinances of the City of Palm Springs regulating wind energy projects. ' NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, as follows: Section 1. The City Council recommends, to the Riverside County Planning Department, approval of Substantial Conformance #4 which allows the redevelopment of Commercial WECS Permit #24 with a maximum of 30 machines of a height no greater than 200 feet.
