HomeMy WebLinkAbout17967 - RESOLUTIONS - 10/21/1992RESOLUTION NO. 17967 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, DESIGNATING THE PALM SPINGS DESERT HARVEST DAYS AND WILDFLOWER FESTIVAL APRIL 1-11, 1993, AS A CITY -SANCTIONED EVENT. WHEREAS the City Council is interested in changing the focus of spring break into an event that will attract new markets here; and WHEREAS for the past several months, city staff and a broad -based committee 'have been developing an event that would celebrate the desert's spring harvest, and incorporating entertainment, ' arts/crafts shows, exhibits and other events; and WHEREAS a full menu of activities is being planned, including, but not limited to: two concerts; celebrity golf and tennis tournaments; celebrity reception; comedy show; arts/crafts fair; exhibits downtown, in the Palm Springs Desert Museum and at the • Convention Center; sporting event on Palm Canyon; Writer's Conference; and children's activities; and WHEREAS the Parks and Recreation Commission is recommending that the City Council sanction the Palm Springs Desert Harvest Days and Wildflower Festival April 1-11, 1993; March 25-April 3, 1994; and April 7-16, 1995; and WHEREAS the City would be required to provide various municipal services, including traffic control and safety services. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, that the Palm Springs Desert Harvest Days and Wildflower Festival meets the standards to qualify as a city - sanctioned event and is hereby designated as such.
