HomeMy WebLinkAbout17937 - RESOLUTIONS - 9/2/1992 RESOLUTION NO. 17937 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING CERTAIN REGULATORY ORDINANCES TO FACILITATE THE GUS MACKER 3-ON-3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT IN PALM SPRINGS, OCTOBER 10 AND 11, 1992 . WHEREAS the City of Palm Springs has approved a contract with Gus Macker Enterprises for the production of the Gus Macker 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament in Palm Springs; and WHEREAS the event will take place form 5 : 00 a.m. on October 10, 1992 through 5: 00 p.m. on October 11, 1992; and WHEREAS the City Council desires to support the Gus Macker 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament to provide activity for residents and to boost tourism; and WHEREAS the City Council finds that certain regulatory ordinances, which are generally deemed desirable and necessary, may nonetheless impede the conduct of special events; and r WHEREAS the City Council finds that the public interest and the benefits derived from holding special events outweigh the temporary public inconvenience; and WHEREAS the City Council has enacted Ordinance #1310 authorizing temporary suspension of regulatory ordinances. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, as follows: Section 1. A. That the dates of the Gus Macker 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament from 5 : 00 a.m. on October 10, 1992 through 5: 00 p.m. on October 11, 1992 are approved. B. That the venues for the event, Palm Springs Mall parking lot and Baristo Road from the Camelot Theatre east to the last entry of the Palm Springs Mall parking lot, are approved. C. That Gus Macker Enterprises and the City of Palm Springs, along with the construction and concession personnel, local restaurateurs and exhibitors under contract, are authorized as the event promoters. Section 2 . That the following ordinances are hereby temporarily suspended for the special event designated in Section 1 above: Sign Ordinance, Zoning Ordinance and Noise ordinance. /��� r Res. 17937 " Page 2 Section 3 . That the regulatory ordinances designated in Section 2 above shall remain in full force and effect except as to the event, dates and persons or organizations as designated in Section 1 above.
