OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA,
AFFIRMING ITS SUPPORT OF HUMAN
RIGHTS.
WHEREAS, the City of Palm Springs has a diverse population and desires to have a harmonious and
peaceful environment for all citizens and visitors; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to affirm that: any and all acts of prejudice, intolerance, bigotry, +
discrimination and disorder are onerous and counterproductive to the goals of the city; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to take a proactive role in encouraging and bringing about
understanding and respect among all groups and all residents of the city, and to eliminate prejudice,
intolerance, bigotry, discrimination and any disorder occasioned thereby; and
WHEREAS, the City Council empowered a Human Relations Task Force to make recommendations with
regard to the formation of a Human Relations Commission for the City of Palm Springs; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the report submitted by the:Human Relations Task Force on July 21, 1992, the
City Council desires to move forward to address human relations concerns.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, as follows:
Section 1. That the City Council is opposed to any and all discrimination on the grounds of ,
race, color, sex, age, religion, disability, medical condition, national origin,
ancestry, sexual orientation, marital status, parental status, or any other arbitrary
factor.
Section 2. That the City Council hereby affirms its commitment to bringing together and
assisting community, civic, religious, business, governmental, and professional
groups, and individuals, to work toward the resolution of human rights issues.
Section 3. That an Ordinance for the City of Palm Springs be drafted which provides for
the establishment of a Human Rights Commission to foster mutual understanding
and respect and enhance the quality of life for all residents and visitors.
