HomeMy WebLinkAbout17916 - RESOLUTIONS - 7/21/1992 RESOLUTION NOo 17916 r 0 OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORN:IA, ADOPTING CITY COUNCIL EXPENDITURE POLICIES RELATING TO TOURISM AND VISITOR PROMOTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Palm Springs seeks to promote the City as a convention, visitor, and tourism destination; and 0 WHEREAS, the City Council desires to set forth policies relating to " the expenditure of funds for such promotion of the City as a r convention, visitor, and tourism destination; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. The City Council intends to and has appropriated and made available for use for the purposes of promotion, advertising, and publicity of the convention, visitor, and tourism economy of the City of ]Palm Springs, on an annual basis, a sum equivalent to -the following amounts or percentages: a. One .Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150, 000) for Convention Center marketing and promotional acti- vities. b. Three Hundred. Thousand Dollars ($300, 000) for special events (seed money, operation, adver- tising) . C. . 6% of all taxable hotel rentals as defined by the funding formula contained :in the joint powers agreement creating the Palm Springs Desert Resorts Convention and Visitors Bureau (:PSDRCVB) , for equal application to all member cities, to be used for valley-wide promotional effort through PSDRCVB. d. 2 . 30 of all taxable hotel rentals for the combined funding of the Tourism Division , including paid advertising) and the Visitor Information Center. e. . 12% of all taxable hotel rentals shall be al- located for senior citizens programs in the City of Palm Springs. SECTION 2 . An amount equal to eight tenths of 1% ( . 8%) of the taxable hotel. rentals of the Group Meeting Hotels shall be paid 'to the Palm Springs (Desert Resorts Convention and Visitors Bureau (PSDDRCVB) , provided that 'the questions regarding the advertising program, termination provisions and other related matters in the Joint Powers Agreement be answered to the City's satisfaction, ,and provided that similar action is taken by all the member cities of the PSDRCVB Joint Powers Authority. This contribution is in addition to the contribution calculated under Section lc, and shall be effective: from August 1, 1992 through June , 30, 1993 unless extended or modified by specific action of the City Council. v Res, No. 17916 1 Page 2 SECTION 3, To the extent the provisions of this Resolution con- flict with any of the provisions of Resolution No. 16985, adopted by the City Council on January 3, 1990 such conflicting provisions of Resolution No. 16985 are hereby superseded.
