HomeMy WebLinkAbout17696 - RESOLUTIONS - 11/20/1991 RESOLUTION NO. 17696 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGIS, CALIFORNIA, CLARIFYING ITS POSITION ON THE FORMERLY PROPOSED PALM SPRINGS INfTERNATIONfAL RACEWAY. WHEREAS application was made to the City of Palm Springs for the Palm Springs International :Raceway; and WHEREAS the project was located in an unincorporated area south of Interstate Highway 10 which would have required, and the applicant-developer was agreeable to, annexation to the City of Palm Springs; and WHEREAS, due to controversies over the project from residents of the City of Palm Springs, the City Council placed an advisory question on the November 6, 1991 general election ballot whether the City Council should support the development of a raceway and related facilities; and WHEREAS the majority of those voting in said election voted no; and WHEREAS the developer-applicant for the proposed raceway had officially withdrawn his application for the project prior to November 6, 1991; and WHEREAS the organized opponents to the raceway project have requested the City Council to affirm the "wishes of the people" as determined by the results of the advisory ballot question relative to said raceway. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, that if the previously proposed Palm Springs International Raceway or any other similar auto raceway project were before this City Council, it would act to deny such a project. ADOPTED this 20th of November 11991.
