HomeMy WebLinkAbout17612 - RESOLUTIONS - 7/31/1991 !JCf, RESOLUTION NO. 1.7612 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING CITY COUNCIL EXPENDITURE POLICIES RELATING TO TOURISM AND VISITOR PROMOTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Palm Springs seeks to promote the City as a convention, visitor, and tourism destination; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to set forth policies relating to the expenditure of funds for such promotion of the City as a convention, visitor, and tourism destination; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, as follows: SECTION 1. The City Council intends to and has appropriated and made available for use for the purposes of promotion, advertising, and publicity of the convention, visitor, and tourism economy of the City of Palm Springs, a sum equivalent to fifty-five and three tenths percent (55.31) of the available transient occupancy taxes of the city, and such appropriation is hereby ratified. SECTION 2. The City Council directs that the sums of money appropriated stated in Section 1 be allocated as follows: a. One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150,000) for Convention Center marketing and promotional activities. b. Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000) for special events (seed money, operation, advertising) . C. An amount of money not less than the amount produced by the funding formula contained in the joint powers agreement creating the Palm Springs Desert Resorts Convention and Visitor Bureau (PSDRCVB) , for equal application to all member cities, to be used for valley-wide promotional effort through PSDRCVB. d. An amount equal to fifteen and eight tenths percent (15.8%) of the transient occupancy tax collections in the Community Promotion Fund, as set forth in Municipal Code Section 3. 24.310, shall be used for paid advertising to promote the City of Palm Springs as a tourism site and visitor destination. e. The balance Qf said fifty-five and t:tac tenths percent (55.3%) of said available transient occupancy tax shall be used for the general purpose of promotion, marketing, and advertising intended for the improvement, 3Q R1612 Page2 enhancement, and promotion of the visitor- related economy of the City of Palm Springs . SECT.[ON 3 . From the transient occupancy tax, after deduction of the fifty-five and three tenths percent ( 55 . 3% ) funding for the items set forth in Section 2 herein, an amount equivalent to two and one-half percent ( 2. 5% ) of the remaining available balance of transient occupancy tax, as defined Section 1 herein, shall be allocated for senior citizens programs in the City of Palm Springs. SECTION 4 . To the extent the provisions of this Resolution conflict with any of the provisions i of Resolution No. 16985, adopted by the City Council on January 3, 19900 such conflicting provisions of Resolution No. 16985 are hereby superseded.
