OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGSā
CALIFORNIA, TO DONATE SURPLUS FIRE EQUIPMENT TO
THE ENSENADA, B.C. FIRE DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS the City of Ensenada, Mexico Fire Department protects a population of
350,000 with 67 members; and
WHEREAS the Ensenada firefighters take a far greater risk than their American coun-
terparts whenever they engage in the dangerous practice of manual fire combat be-
cause many do not have a complete set of protective clothing and few have access to
self-contained breathing apparatus and portable radios; and
WHEREAS the Palm springs Fire Department and the Palm Springs Rotary Club have
taken an active interest in helping to improve the ability of the Ensenada firefighters to
deal with their fire problem; and
WHEREAS the City of Palm Springs currently has a 1970 Seagrave fire engine that
has been retired from service because of its age and condition, five self contained
breathing apparatus that no longer meet the Cal OSHA and federal safety standards
essential for use in the United States and other equipment that, because of its age and
condition, has been placed into surplus;
WHEREAS the Mexican firefighters have access to a very inexpensive labor source
and they could repair this equipment and make good use of it,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs
that the above mentioned surplus and non-certified fire equipment be donated to the
Ensenada, B.C. Fire Department.
