HomeMy WebLinkAbout17378 - RESOLUTIONS - 12/27/1990 RESOLUTION NO. 17378 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, AFFIRMING ITS SUPPORT FOR AMERICAN MILITARY PERSONNEL OVERSEAS, ESPECIALLY THOSE PARTICIPATING IN OPERATION DESERT SHIELD, AND TO REQUEST ALL RESIDENTS AND VISITORS, ALONG WITH CVAG AND ALL COACHELLA VALLEY CITIES, TO 70IN IN DISPLAYING YELLOW RIBBONS THROUGHOUT THE DESERT COMMUNITY IN A SHOW OF SUPPORT FOR OUR TROOPS OVERSEAS. WHEREAS the City Council supports American military personnel performing their duty overseas, especially those participating in Operation Desert Shield; and WHEREAS troops from throughout the Palm Springs area, California and the United States and their families are affected during this holiday season by increased demands on military personnel as a result of the gulf crisis; and WHEREAS members of the community have expressed it.heir concern and support for the service personnel stationed overseas; and WHEREAS the City of Palm Springs desires to officially pay tribute to those serving in the aimed forces overseas, and urges other cities in the Coachella Valley to join with them. in this tribute this holiday season, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs as follows: Section 1. That support: for and tribute to American military personnel serving overseas, particularly those participating in Operation Desert Shield in the Middle East, is hereby proclaimed and all residents and visitors are encouraged to demonstrate their support of our troops overseas by flying or wearing yellow ribbons or banners in visib:l.e locations throughout the city. Section 2 . That CVAG and all. Coachella Valley cities are invited to join in this demonstration of support, and encourage their residents to do likewise.
