HomeMy WebLinkAbout17358 - RESOLUTIONS - 12/5/1990 RESOLUTION NO. 17358 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, OPPOSING THE COUNTY OF RIVERSIDE'S IMPOSITION OF FEES FOR BOOKING PRISONERS. WHEREAS, the State Legislature finally balanced its budget in August by underfunding counties by $800 million and told counties to charge cities for booking prisoners; and WHEREAS, every city in Riverside County has adopted a balanced budget for the fiscal year beginning July, 1990; and WHEREAS, if Riverside County elects to charge cities these fees, every _ city budget in the county will be thrown into a deficit position. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California does hereby urge the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to not implement the booking fees authorized by SB 2557, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the City of Palm Springs urges the Board of Supervisors to create a Task Force of the City and County Officials which would explore the County' s booking process and offer possible alternatives to the current system which would reduce the overall cost of this important and necessary function.
