RESOLUTION NO. 17077
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS,
CALIFORNIA, ENTHUSIASTICALLY ENDORSING AND
FULLY SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION FOR A UNIVERSITY
OF CALIFORNIA CAMPUS IN THE COAC:HELLA VALLEY
BEFORE THE YEAR 2000.
WHEREAS; the Coachella Valley presently contaons nearly 300,000 permanent i
residents and has become one of the most rapidly expanding population centers in
California, and
WHEREAS; said population does not benefit from access to any locally-based
four year college or university, and
WHEREAS; this lack of university access has significantly limited the career
and economic opportunities of said population, and
WHEREAS; said Valley's remarkable climate, readily available land, existing
extensive transportation infrastructure, renowned cultural sophistication, and
commitment to quality education make it ideally suited to become a site of a major
university, and
WHEREAS; the communities of the Coachella Valley are completely committed to
the total cooperation necessary to attract and sustain a University of California
campus,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Palm
Springs, California, enthusiastically endorses and fully supports the application r
for a University of California campus, in the Coachella Valley before the year
2000.
ADOPTED this 4th day of April, 1990.
