HomeMy WebLinkAbout17052 - RESOLUTIONS - 4/4/1990 RESOLUTION NO. 17052 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, DESIGNATING THE GENERAL TELEPHONE BUILDING AS A CLASS 1 HISTORIC SITE. ae a, aE ae aE WHEREAS General Telephone has contributed substantially to the history and development of the City of Palm Springs; and WHEREAS the General Telephone Building has long been a landmark for residents of the City of Palm Springs; and WHEREAS Chapter 8.05 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code allows for the designation of historic sites; and WHEREAS on March 13, 1990, the Historic Site Preservation Board held a public hearing to designate the General Telephone Building as an historic site and unanimously recommended to the City Council designation of said property as a Class 1 Historic Site; and WHEREAS the City Council concurs in the recommendation of the Historic Site Preservation Board regarding the historic value of the General Telephone Building; and WHEREAS the designation of the General Telephone Building shall further the purposes and intent of Chapter 8.05; and WHEREAS the designation of the General Telephone Building shall promote the sensitive preservation and redevelopment of said site. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California as follows: Section 1 .The General Telephone Building, located at 365 N. Palm Canyon Dr. , shall be designated a Class 1 Historic Site pursuant to Chapter 8.05 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code. The site is located on a portion of Lot 8 of the subdivision of Palm Springs, as recorded at Page 432 of Map Book 9, Riverside County, California; APN 513-082-035. Section 2.No permit for the exterior alteration to the original General Telephone Building, located at the front of the property on Palm Canyon Dr. , shall be granted without the prior approval of the Historic Site Preservation Board pursuant to Chapter 8.05 of the Municipal Code; alterations to the remaining structures shall be reviewed for compatibility with the historic structure by the Planning Commission pursuant to Section 9404.00 of the Zoning Ordinance. A plaque demarking the site shall be placed installed by the City. ADOPTED this 4th day of April 1990.
