OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM
SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, REDESIGNATING EL MIRADOR
GARAGE AS A CLASS 1 HISTORIC SITE.
• WHEREAS El Mirador Garage and its associated personages and past events have
contributed substantially to the history of the City of Palm Springs; and
WHEREAS El Mirador Garage has long been a landmark for both residents and visitors
in the City of Palm Springs; and
WHEREAS Chapter 8.05 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code allows for the designation
of historic sites; and
WHEREAS on February 6, 1985, the City Council designated El Mirador Garage as a
Class 5 (equivalent to current Class 2) Historic Site rather than a Class 7
(equivalent to current Class 1 ) Site due to concerns regarding the feasibility of
rehabilitation of the structure; and
WHEREAS El Mirador Garage has since been sensitively rehabilitated; and
WHEREAS on November 14, 1989, the Historic Site Preservation Board held a public
hearing to consider redesignation of E1 Mirador Garage and unanimously recommended
to the City Council redesignation of said property as a Class 1 Historic Site; and
WHEREAS the City Council concurs in the recommendation of the Historic Site
Preservation Board regarding the historic value of El Mirador Garage; and
WHEREAS the redesignation of E1 Mirador Garage shall further the purposes and
r� intent of Chapter 8.05; and
II WHEREAS the redesignation of El Mirador Garage shall promote the sensitive
preservation of said site.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs,
California as follows:
Section 1 . E1 Mirador Garage, located on the southeast corner of Palm Canyon and
Tachevah Drives, shall be designated a Class 1 Historic Site pursuant
to Chapter 8.05 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code. The site is located
on Lots 1 thru 3, 62, and a portion of lot 61 of Palm Springs Estates
No. 2, as recorded at Page 45 of Map Book 16, Riverside County,
California; APN 505-265-001 .
Section 2.No permit for the exterior alteration to E1 Mirador Garage shall be
granted without the prior approval of the Historic Site Preservation
Board; alterations shall preserve the historic integrity of the site.
The plaque demarking El Mirador Garage shall be maintained.
