HomeMy WebLinkAbout1400 - ORDINANCES - 12/4/1991 ORDINANCE NO. 1400 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, ADDING SECTIONS 10. 04 . 080 AND 10. 28 . 070 OF THE PALM SPRINGS MUNICIPAL CODE PROHIBITING THE SLAUGHTER OF ANIMALS WHEREAS, in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Palm Springs, the City Council finds it necessary to prohibit the slaughtering of animals in the City of Palm Springs unless such slaughtering occurs at a licensed slaughterhouse by a person licensed by the State of California or the federal government to conduct such slaughtering. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, DOE'S ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 10. 04 . 080 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code is hereby added to read as follows: 10. 04 .080 Slaughter. "Slaughter" means to kill and prepare for human consumption or pet food purposes. SECTION 2 . Section 10.28 . 070 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code is hereby added to read as follows: 10. 28 . 070 Slaughtering prohibited. (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to slaughter any dog or cat. (b) It shall be unlawful for any person to slaughter any cattle, sheep, swine, goat, horse or mule unless otherwise authorized to do so under state law. SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after passage. SECTION 4. PUBLICATION. The City Clerk is hereby ordered and directed to certify to the passage of this Ordinance, and to cause the same or a summary thereof or a display advertisement, duly prepared according to law, to be published in accordance with law.
