5.40.010 OF CHAPTER 5. 40 OF TITLE 5 OF
THE PALM SPRINGS MUNICIPAL CODE BY THE
ADDITION OF PARAGRAPH ( F) TO P=UIRE
TAXICAB RATE POSTINGS.
WHEREAS the City of Palm Springs ("Cityll) desires to provide for
the orderly, efficient and safe operation of taxicab services in
the City; and
WHEREAS, in order to regulate taxicab se.,�vices so that such
services are provided in a manner which will promote the health,
safety and welfare of the residents of the City; and
WHEREAS there has been a dramatic increase in the number of
complaints from citizens of the City and from, 'visitors regarding
taxicab services and the rates charged; anrd
WHEREAS there is no existing requirement foy- to:.i companies to
post their rates on the exterior of the vehicle so as to notify
the traveling public, properly; and
WHEREAS taxicab service at the Palr[I Springs Regional Airport has
been deregulated by the City of Palm Springs, and
WHEREAS the peak tourist season in the City began in December;
and
WHEREAS it is necessary for the City to estulilish provisions for
taxicab rate postings on an immediate and n?rgent basis for the
reasons stated in the above Recitals,
NOW THEREFORE the City Council of the Citjr oZ Palm Springs does
ordain, as follows:
Section 1: Section 5. 40 .010 of. Chapter 5.,!O of Title 5 of the
Palm Springs Municipal Code is hersby amended by
the addition of Paragraph (f) , pis followsz
n (f) FARE POSTING. In any such franchise license,
permit, or contract, or -in the conditions of
requirements attached �.hareto pursuant to
subsections (a) and (b) of this section, the
holder thereof shall posy. its schedule of
rates for public view. SHid posting shall be
provided via a 1211 y 13°1 sign on the
passenger side of the vehicle either on a
permanent sign on the si6e of the vehicle or
on a temporary sign displayed in the window.
Said posting shall list the IlFlag Drop" and
"Per Miley° rates, and shall be in letters not
smaller than 211 in height. If the rates are
provided via a sign in the window, said sign
shall be displayed while on the taxicab stand
and shall be removed prior to placing the
vehicle in motion.11

Section 2 : The City Council finds and deteirmiiies that, for the
reasons demonstrated in the above xtecitFjls, there

this urgency ordinance be enacted as provided
herein.
Section 3 : This ordinance is heLreby declGized an urgency
measure and shall take effect immediately upon its
passage on January 2, 1991.
Section 4 : The City Clerk of the City of P<AIl,ya springs shall
certify to the passage and adoption of this urgency
ordinance, and shall cause the sautQ to be posted
and published in the manner requikec,l by law.
