CONSTRUCTION CHANGE ORDER NO. ONE TO TAPUZ ENTERPRISES, INC.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council approve Construction Change Order No. One to Tapuz
Enterprises, Inc., for an increase of $13,656.88 for the Mid-Valley Parkway -
Phase 1, Landscape Improvements Project, City Project No. 95-38.
BACKGROUND:
On April 7, 1999, City Council of the City of Palm Springs awarded Tapuz
Enterprises, Inc. the contract for the Mid-Valley Parkway - Phase 1, Landscape
Improvements Project.
In reviewing the specifications for the proposed irrigation water main for the
landscaping, Desert Water Agency (DWA) and the City's consulting engineer,
RBF & Associates, agreed that the proposed 1 1/2 in. irrigation water main would
not provide the necessary static water pressure for the irrigation system. This is due
to the change from domestic to reclaimed water and information from DWA that
the reclaimed water line has lower pressure than the domestic line. The irrigation
water main will be modified as follows:
Change 1 1/2 in. Sch 40 PVC mainline on the south side of Mesquite Avenue from
Sta. 23 + 00 to Sta. 42 + 00 to 2 1/2 in. Sch 40 PVC, change 1 1/2 in. Sch 40 PVC
mainline in the median from Sta. 42 + 00 to Sta. 72 + 00 to 2 1/2 in. Sch 40 PVC
and change all 11/2 in. Sch 40 PVC mainline from the median to monument planter
areas to 2 in. Sch 40 PVC. An adjustment of contract time (Contract Extension)
will be made at a later dale between the City and the contractor, Tapuz Enterprises,
Inc.
An agreement as to price could not be reached with Tapuz Enterprises, Inc., on
this item as they were asking in excess of$29,000.00. Staff proposes to proceed,
therefore, on an Accumulation of Costs basis, in accordance with the Standard
Specifications. The amount of this change order is based upon Staff estimates of
time and material to complete the work. If additional time and material is required,
an additional change order will be prepared.
The net increase for this change order totals $13,656.88. Funds are available in
account number: 4497-50113, Mid-Valley Parkway Phase 1
