MID-VALLEY PARKWAY LANDSCAPING
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that City Council provide direction for possible change to the landscape
plan for Mid-Valley Parkway islands.
BACKGROUND:
The landscaping project for the Mid-Valley Parkway islands is underway. A substantial
amount of redesign work was accomplished prior to bid to bring the project within budgeted
funds. The redesign resulted in less planting and smaller species. The bids received
included an alternate for larger palms and because of the excellent prices, the alternate was
selected.
Concerns have been expressed that the size of the trees may inhibit the marketing of the
property on both sides of the street. Prior to installation of the palms, staff seeks Council
input on the desire to downsize the palms.
The project includes 80 palms. It they were downsized from 6', 8', and 10' to 4', 6' and 8',
after a restocking fee, the City could realize savings of approximately $75 a tree or$6000.
