Subject: Hotels In Single Family Neighborhoods
The 1200 block ofBuena Vista is just south of Tachevah Drive and west of Sunrise Way and consists
of fifteen (15) single family residences. Over the last several months an out of town group of
investors, we believe from Seattle, have purchased three of the fifteen home on our block and have
nicely refurbished them. We were very happy to see these homes refurbished but we are not pleased
that these homes have now been turned over to a rental agency and they are rented as hotel rooms
to weekend visitors. Parties until 2:00 a.m. are regular occurrences and contact to the rental agency
initially was handled by a call to the house to ask for quiet. However that soon deteriorated to "It
is legal for us to do this and you can do nothing about it!"
If we had wanted to live next to a hotel we would have bought there! The attached map shows the
impact in this one small neighborhood and we have heard that the problem is occurring elsewhere.
We seek the city council's assistance in a quick modification to the zoning ordinance that clarifies
short term rentals in single family zones is not an approved usage. Please preserve the tranquility of
our neighborhood. Imagine a nice spring day and the chance to enjoy the outside only to discover that
twelve teens are in the pool next door for a four day stay.

We reserve the right to refuse rental to anyone.
IReservation policies
2 night minimum stay required for ALL non-holiday, non-special event
rentals.
5 night minimum stay for the following holidays/special events:
Easter/Palm Springs White Party (April 20 through the 24, 2000)
x Dinah Shore's Golf Classic (March 20 through the 26, 2000)
Thanksgiving
Christmas
New Years
Check-in: Can be negotiated at time of reservation.
Checkout: 11:00 am of departure day unless special arrangements are made ahead of
time.
Reservations canceled less than 31 days prior to scheduled arrival are subject to a
minimum of 50% of total rental fees. Otherwise, fees are refundable less a 25%
handling fee or $100.00, which ever is greater.

Payment policies
Terms of payment are: cash, check or credit card.
'44 Payment in full must be received 48 hours prior to scheduled arrival. NO personal
checks accepted less than 10 days prior to check in.
50% of total rental fee is required as a refundable security deposit.
Security deposit is due at time of reservation.
y Security deposit will be refunded within 72 hours after checkout.
Security deposit will be used as a guarantee against damage beyond normal usage.
A $100 non-refundable cleaning fee is required. (Standard Cleaning, see below)
a A 10% city bed tax is required.
�s In the event of a lost key, there will be a $50 charge against the security deposit.
General policies
Scheduled pool maintenance will occur on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Scheduled grounds maintenance will occur on Thursdays.
Smoking policy: Smoking is permitted outdoors only. If smoking does occur inside the
home, the entire security deposit will be forfeited.
Absolutely no pets are permitted.
`�e Standard cleaning includes change bed linens, wash linens and towels, scour kitchen,
baths, floors, and limited reasonable garbage removal.
A final walk-through of the rented property will be conducted by PalmSprings-Rental.com
within 72 hours of checkout to assess the condition of the rented property. The security
deposit will be refunded within 72 hours of guest's departure, less any damages above and
beyond normal usage (see payment policies).

Once again our city and business have suffered because of poor decisions made by our
city government to allow for expansion that our infrastructure is incapable of supporting.
This afternoon the Summer Business Expo was being held at the Riviera Resort here in
Palm Springs and because of the demand for electricity in the city was too great the resort
was forced to shut down its power thus canceling the expo in mid swing. This city needs
all of the positive exposure it can get when it comes to the local businesses. Not give
them one more thing to be mad about. Today's 115-degree temperature is not unusual for
the desert in the summer. Here in lies the problem. We do not have the infrastructure to
deliver the necessary power in times of high demand. We need to address this issue to
ensure that the power is there when needed and that we do not continue to grow both
manufacturing and industry beyond our ability sustain them in a reasonable manner.
Power outages and brown outs or black outs are very dangerous and costly. The Riviera
complied with Edison's demand that they power down,had they and other businesses not
complied we could be in for a situation that we suffered several years ago when much of
the western United States was with out power for several hours. A widespread blackout
is dangerous and costly. Many people suffer in high heat without air conditioning and
fans, and much equipment is damaged when not supplied with proper and consistent
amounts of electricity.
If we do not work to meet the demand of our current residents and businesses all of those
wonderful billboards that line highway 111 to our west will need the disclaimer:
Beautiful Palm Springs; Subject to periods of darkness and intense heat!
Our city and those to the east of us need to be cognizant of our growth and the ability of
our utilities, emergency services, schools and roads to serve us safely and efficiently.
