HomeMy WebLinkAbout3/1/2000 - STAFF REPORTS (2) DATE: March 1, 2000 TO: City Council FROM: Procurement Manager via Fire Chief APPROVE PURCHASE OF HURST RESCUE EQUIPMENT FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT ON A SOLE- SOURCE BASIS RECOMMENDATION: his recommended that the City Council approve the purchase of Hurst hydraulic rescue equipment from L.N. Curtis&Sons of Oakland,CA on a sole-source basis in the amount of$24,809.44 in order to equip the new Pierce aerial trucks . BACKGROUND: The Fire Department currently utilizes Hurst brand hydraulic rescue equipment, commonly referred to as "Jaws-of-Life" equipment, in fire rescue activity. The Department needs to acquire additional hydraulic rescue equipment in order to equip the two new Pierce aerial trucks. It is an operational necessity to equip the new aerial tucks with equipment compatible to the equipment already in use(Hurst). The equipment must be interchangeable with the equipment on the City's other fire trucks and engines,must operate at the same pressure(5000 psi)and must be compatible with the equipment utilized by the City's mutual aid providers. L.N. Curtis and Sons is the only company authorized by the manufacturer(Hurst)to sell this equipmentin the State of California. It is therefore requested that the City Council authorize the purchase on a sole-source basis of 2 Hurst power units,2 Hurst cutter/spreader units,2 Hurst rams and 3 sets of rescue plates from L.N. Custis at a total cost of$24,809.44. Funds are avai lable for this purchase in Account No.3520-50015,Fire Department-Specialized Equipment. HAROLD E. GOOD BARY A. I HEREBY CERTIFY that this Minute Order approving the purchase of Hurst hydraulic rescue equipment from L.N.Curtis&Sons of Oakland,CA on a sole-source basis in the amount of$24,809.44 in order to equip the new Pierce aerial trucks,was approved by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California in a meeting thereof held on the 1st day of March, 2000.
