Home My WebLink About8/2/2000 - STAFF REPORTS (27) DATE: August 2, 2000 TO: City Council FROM: City Engineer and Police Chief CONTRACT FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT BASEMENT REMODEL RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council award contract to Doug Wall Construction, Inc., in the amount of$184,800, for the Police Department Basement Remodel, City Project No. 2000-04. BACKGROUND: On February 16, 2000, City Council authorized a budget amendment appropriating $60,000 from fund balance to be applied to previously granted funds from the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and the Coachella Valley Narcotics Task Force, to design and construct an office remodel in the Police Department basement to house the Palm Springs Narcotics Task Force. The Coachella Valley Narcotics Task Force and the Sheriff's Special Investigations Bureau East will also utilize this office space. The remodel design has been completed, and on July 1 and 8, 2000, the project was advertised for bids. At 10:00 a.m. on July 25, 2000, the Procurement Division received bids from the following contractors: 1. Doug Wall Construction, Inc. $184,800.00 Bermuda Dunes 2. James E. Simon Co., Indio $242,600.00 3. Har-Bro Construction, San Bernardino $317,084.66 Plans and specifications were prepared by Interactive Design under the City Architect's Agreement. The Engineer's estimate was $157,567. The low bid was submitted by Doug Wall Construction Inc. from Bermuda Dunes, CA. The firm is a corporation. Principals of the firm are Doug Wall, President and Yvonne Wall, Secretary-Treasurer. Approximately $155,000 is available in account no. 261-3200-52000 (Police Dept Capital Improvement). Commitments received from the Coachella Valley Narcotics Task Force and the Desert Health Care District will fund the remaining construction costs, and the furnishings and technical equipment.
