SYSTEM SUPPORT FOR MOTOROLA 800 Mhz RADIO SYSTEM
RECOMMENDATION:
That City Council approve purchase of maintenance support for the Motorola 800 Mhz
Radio System from Motorola Communications and Electronics, Inc., of Wood Dale, IL for
an additional one-year period (FY 2000/2001) in the amount of$65,760.
BACKGROUND:
The City's Information Technology Department administers the Motorola 800 Mhz Radio
System maintenance and support. The Radio system serves the Police and Fire
Departments, Airport, Facilities Maintenance, Street Maintenance, Engineering and
other City Departments.
The radio system was purchased in 1993, and the agreement included a one-year
warranty, followed by a five-year maintenance contract, which has just ended.
Staff recommends the purchase of maintenance support from Motorola, a sole source
service provider to our area, in order to maintain the system hardware and software of
the 800 Mhz radio system.
The maintenance support allows for timely response to system software and hardware
failures and to replace failed components.
Funds have been budgeted for this purpose, and are available using the following
accounts:
001-1120-42980 Information Services Radio Maintenance $45,718.00
415-6225-42980 Airport Radio Maintenance $20,042.00
