HomeMy WebLinkAbout1/19/2000 - STAFF REPORTS (17) DATE: January 19, 2000 TO: City Council FROM: Deputy Director Aviation- Operations via Director of Aviation PASSENGER LOADING BRIDGE SPARE PARTS PURCHASE RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends City Council approval to purchase a spare parts inventory for the passenger loading bridges, from the manufacturer of the bridges, FMC Jetway Systems, at a cost of$13,969.31. BACKGROUND: The new passenger loading bridges have been accepted by the airport and are now under the airport's control. The bridges are under warranty for the first year, however, in order to minimize any down time that may occur due to repair and/or maintenance needs, staff is proposing to purchase a supply of critical and most commonly needed spare parts from the manufacturer of the boarding bridges. Any of these parts used by the manufacturer during the warranty period would be immediately replaced by the manufacturer at no charge to the airport. The spare parts inventory will help reduce downtime associated with ordering parts. The passenger loading bridges are a critical component of the airline's passenger enplaning and deplaning operations and down time can cause flight delays. Staff feels it's prudent to take pro-active steps to help minimize any down time. The Airport Commission unanimously supported staffs recommendation. No general fund monies will be used for this purchase. The funds for these parts are available in the airport budget in account no. 415-6326-43245. : APPROVED: I TRACYLINCOLN JERI L.
