HomeMy WebLinkAbout7/19/2000 - STAFF REPORTS (9) Date: July 19, 2000 To: City Council From: City Engineer CONSTRUCTION CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 TO G &M Construction RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approve Construction Change Order NO. 1 to G & M Construction, in the amount of$11,000 for a total contract cost of$22,000, for Citywide Flood Gates, City Project#99-18. BACKGROUND: On April 19, 2000 City Council awarded G& M Construction the contract for City Project#99-18, Citywide Flood Gates. The project as originally designed consisted of the installation of four sets of floodgates in various locations. However, due to a lack of funding only one set of floodgates (Gene Autry Trail) was awarded. Additional funding within the new fiscal year budget has been Identified that will allow the addition of the set of floodgates located on Indian Canyon Dr. between Tramview,Rd. and the Palm Springs Train Station Rd. The installation of this additional set of floodgates on Indian Canyon Drive, along with the set already approved by Council on Gene Autry Trail, will allow City forces to more effectively close off the Whitewater River Wash area during emergency situations. The contractor has agreed to construct the additional gates for their original $11,000 bid price. REASONS FOR CHANGES: The Citywide Floodgate project initially included a total of four sets of floodgates. Due to lack of funding, only one of the four sets of gates were awarded. Additional funding within the new fiscal year budget has been identified which will allow the addition of the Indian Ave. floodgates. The contractor has agreed to construct the additional gates at the price originally bid. Due to the reduced scope of work on this project; total working time will be reduced from 30 working days to 15 working days.
