HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/15/1999 - STAFF REPORTS (21) DATE: December 15, 1999 TO: City Council FROM: Director, Department of Facilities, and Director of Aviation AWARD TO MOVE 32 PALM TREES RECOMMENDATION: That City Council approve award to Prices Nursery&Garden Supply,Inc.of Cathedral City to move 32 palm trees from various locations to the airport due to growth-created conflict with Edison power lines for a total cost not to exceed$33,000. BACKGROUND: Edison crews top palm trees when their growth interferes with the maintenance of their power lines. In the case of the 32 trees in question, this would either render the trees aesthetically unacceptable or destroy the trees. The airport will be able to use the trees in its landscaping efforts, resulting in saving the trees at a cost less than the price of securing and planting comparable palm trees. Formal bids were solicited for this service and no bids were received by the bid deadline. The Municipal Code provides the ability for staff to negotiate pricing in this type of circumstance.Prices Nursery has successfully performed this service for the City in the past The prices quoted are in line with market rates. The following is a breakdown of the trees that will be moved and the cost 18 single Washingtonia filifers palms $1,000 each Total: $18,000 4 double Washingtonia filifera palms $1,250 each Total: $ 5,000 10 Washingtonla robusta palms $1,000 each Total: $10,000 Funds are available in Airport Account No.415-6500-50111. 4 a 9,1*r1d94 SCOTT MIKESELL, Director JERI R DLE, Director Department of Facilities Aviation Department APPRO_VqED: . ity Manager HAROLD GOOD, CPPO Procurement Manager ATTACHM NT: 1.
