BACKGROUND: The City Council provided direction to implement the first phase of a paramedic program with the adoption of the FY-99d10 budget. It is projected that the program will be partially implemented in January or February,2000. In January 1999, the Fire Department applied for a two-year grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for assistance in funding the establishment of a paramedic program in the City of Palm Springs. The grant application requested $90,000 the first year and$6,500 the second year($96,500 total). On September 23, 1999 OTS notified the Pre Department that the funding requested had been approved. An "on-site" assessment meeting with an OTS representative will be held on November 22, 1999 to negotiate the final grant allocation. An account has been established in the Fire Department budget to administer the OTS grant funds(001-3520-53008). The Zoll unit is the same that is being used by Cathedral City Fire Department. The Cove Communities are considering the purchase of similar equipment at this time, and Zoll has extended a standard pricing offer to all Coachella Valley governmental entities (including AMR Ambulance). //•s Bary A.F96et,Fire Chief Harold Good,Procurement Manager . Dallas Fhcek,Acting City Manager MINUTE ORDER NO.
