CONSTRUCTION CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 TO CONTRERAS CONSTRUCTION CO.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council approve Construction Change Order No.1 to Contreras
Construction Co., for an increase of$24,967.06 for Additive Bid Schedule H and 7
sack concrete for the schedules B &C bus pads, on the 1998/99 Citywide Sidewalk
Construction project, City project No. 98-18. An additional 5 working days shall
be granted for this work.
BACKGROUND:
On September 15, 1999, City Council of the City of palm Springs awarded
Contreras Construction Co. the contract for schedules A through F for the 1998/99
Citywide Sidewalk Construction project. The bid consisted of eight bid schedules
(A through H), the first six of which (A through F) are funded from the SB 821
program. Due to lack of funds, the final 2 schedules (G and H) were not awarded.
Bid results for the recently awarded 1998/99 Crack6lling program were
significantly below the budgeted amount, providing an opportunity to construct Bid
Schedule H since both projects are Measure A funded.
Schedule H consists of sidewalk and curb along the west side of Avenida Caballeros
in the vicinity of Raymond Cree Middle School. Staff feels this sidewalk would be
of great benefit to students who walk to school. Schedule H was part of the
original bid and the contractor has agreed to accept his bid prices as payment for
this Change Order. An additional 5 working days is provided for in the
specifications in the event Schedule H is constructed.
In addition, 7 sack concrete in lieu of 6 sack, as called for in the project
specifications, will result in higher strength and allow the bus pads to be open to
traffic in 4 days rather than 7.
Sufficient funds are available in account number 134-4498-50157 (Local Measure A
Sidewalk Safety Grant).

C.REASON FOR CHANGE:

I HEREBY CERTIFY that this Minute Order approving Construction Change Order
No. 1 to Contreras Construction Co., for an increase of$24,967.06, for the
Additive Schedule H and 7 sack concrete on schedules B& C bus pads, on the
1998/99 Citywide Sidewalk Construction, City Project No. 98-18, was approved by
the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, in a meeting thereof held
on the 17th day of November 1999.
