RECOMMENDATION:
That City Council approve purchase of one(1)dedicated CNG one-half ton cargo van
through the State of California Contract for alternate fuel vehicles,Contract# 1-00-23-22,

BACKGROUND:
The palm Springs Mizell Senior Center applied for Community Block Grant Funding in
the amount of$20,000 to purchase a cargo van. The primary use of the van is for the
support of the"Meals on Wheels"Program, which provides food for home-bound senior
citizens in Palm Springs.
History has shown that purchasing vehicles through the State of California contracts
saves approximately$3,000 per vehicle, compared with pricing received if the City
conducts its own competitive bid process.
Twenty thousand dollars($20,000)is available in account#137-4800-63530,Community
Block Grant Funds. The Mizell Senior Center will pay all costs above this amount.
