HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/1/1999 - STAFF REPORTS (10) DATE: December 1, 1999 TO: City Council FROM: Community Development Block Grant/Housing Coordinator and Procurement Manager APPROVE PURCHASE OF DEDICATED CNG ONE-HALF TON CARGO VAN FOR THE MMELL SENIOR CENTER RECOMMENDATION: That City Council approve purchase of one(1)dedicated CNG one-half ton cargo van through the State of California Contract for alternate fuel vehicles,Contract# 1-00-23-22, from Swift Jeep Chrysler Plymouth in the amount of$18,812 plus$1,458 sales tax,for a total cost of$20,270. BACKGROUND: The palm Springs Mizell Senior Center applied for Community Block Grant Funding in the amount of$20,000 to purchase a cargo van. The primary use of the van is for the support of the"Meals on Wheels"Program,which provides food for home-bound senior citizens in Palm Springs. History has shown that purchasing vehicles through the State of California contracts saves approximately$3,000 per vehicle,compared with pricing received if the City conducts its own competitive bid process. Twenty thousand dollars($20,000)is available in account#137-4800-63530,Community Block Grant Funds. The Mizell Senior Center will pay all costs above this amount. FRANCESCA ToscAN6 MERRITT HAROLD E.
