Tartar's Bow Racing(Sherman Oaks,CA) 2. Group Dynamics,Ina-(Los Angeles,CA) 3. Showmax Marketing(Lee Alamitos,CA) • TadAes Bow Racing was originally contracted in 1997 to produce the Palm Springs Grand Prix but was held in default of its contract for nonperformance by its thilure to produce the 1998 event. Tartar's Bow staff continued to independently work on a possible event for 1999. However, they recently indicated to City staff that they were not able to produce a"race only"event and desired to off act their promotional costs by producing concerts in Palm Springs Stadium. This was not viewed favorably bye staff and Tartar's Bow is now concentrating its efforts for the year 2000. • Group Dypgmies.Inc.representatives approached City staffthis past spring and indicated they had both the desire and promotional experience required to put forward an event for 1999 and beyond. They were encouraged to examine this possibility and report back to staff as soon as possible. Group Dynamics reported in September that sponsorship dollars were quite scarce for 1999 but it wished to proceed with its promotional activities forproduction ofa year 2000"racco*"event.Staff has indicated to Group Dynamics representatives that the City is interested in hearing from them in the near future to evaluate their progress with sponsorship and promotional opportunities ifprogrem appears to have been made. • ; fix Marketing approached staff within the past two weeks and expressed interest in hosting a"professionally-sanctioned race-only event"in Palm Springs beginning in 2000.Showmax stafffeel they have a dedicated relationship with am4or automotive manufaaurcr, which has expressed interest in developing a professional annual event in the City of Palm Springs.Showmax is willing to pursue this venture if there is interest on behalf of the City for it to do so. IN CONCLUSION: Staff is currently developing an Evaluating Committee that would review proposals from each of the three prospective event producers. This evaluation process would, hopefully, determine the most feasible approach to producing the event by identifying the proposed sanctioning body, its sponsors, and how to structure the event to maximize its marketing and promotional value for the City of Palm Springs as well as the event sponsors. j
