AIRPORT PROMOTIONAL/MARKETING PIECE-TERMINAL OPENING
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that City Council authorize the development of an Airport
promotional/marketing pull-out section by Palm Springs Life Magazine for the November
19M edition to correspond with the opening of the new Terminal.
BACKGROUND:
The Airports ten-year effort to expand its terminal comes to an end in November of 1999.
The opening is a time to celebrate and it is a time to let the world know we have new and
expanded facilities. The staff has negotiated with Palm Springs Life Magazine to develop
a 12-page pull-out section for the November edition. Deadlines for this edition are mid
September. The cost of placing the piety is$29,000,less any advertising placed from leads
provided by the Airport.
A Minute Order authorizing the placement of the piece is attached for City Council
consideration. Funds are available in Airport Advertising Account 41"002-45520.

Dear Mr, Smoot,
Thank you for the opportunity to assist you in planning the promotion strategy for the
Grand Opening of the new terminal at the Palm Springs International Airport This
proposal is for the City of Palm Springs to place a 12-page section in the November 1999
issue ofPdlm b'pr1nF Life magazine. The price for this proposal is$29,000 net,which
includes art direction,color separation,editorial assistance and all other production
services,
The City of Palm Springs is to submit a minimum of eighteen(18)transparencies from
which our art director will choose 12 to 15 depending on layout. Layout is such that if the
client wishes that additional transparencies are used the additional cost per transparency
will be$300 each with use at the discretion of the art director_
To absorb some advertising costs,City of Palm Springs will supply list of potential
advertisers who may want to purchase advertising space within the 12-page section. The
total amounts received from those potential advertisers will be taken directly off the top
of this proposed amount of$290D.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that this Minute Order, approving the development of a
promotional/marketing piece for the Airport, related to its Terminal Grand Opening,
by Palm Springs Life Magazine, in an amount not to exceed$29,000,was adopted
by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, in a meeting thereof held
on the 1't day of September 1999.
