HomeMy WebLinkAbout7/28/1999 - STAFF REPORTS (21) • 0 DATE: July 28, 1999 TO: City Council FROM: City Engineer LOBSTER COMPANY PARKING LOT UPGRADE RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council award a contract to G &M Construction, in the amount of $108,795.50, for the Lobster Company Parking Lot Upgrade, City Project No. 98-15. BACKGROUND: The 1998/99 Parking Fund budget includes funds for expanding the parking lot adjacent to the Lobster Company restaurant. On October 7, 1998, the City Council approved a Contract Services Agreement with Sanborn A/E, Inc., for professional engineering services required to produce the plans, specifications, and estimates for construction of the Lobster Company parking lot improvements. The project was advertised for bids on June 19 and June 26, 1999. At 2:00 P.M. on July 13, 1999, the Procurement Division received bids from the following contractors: 1. G & M Construction, Palm Springs $108,795.50 2. Jacobsson Engineering Constr., Inc. Palm Desert $120,302.00 3. Commercial Diversified, Inc. Twenty-Nine Palms $138,652.55 4. Granite Construction Co. Watsonville $165,369.00 5. Contreras Construction Co., Indio $169,643.00 6. JDC, Inc., Rancho Cucamonga $187,059.00 The Engineer's estimate was $121,616.00. G & M Construction, the low bidder, is from Palm Springs. The firm is a corporation. Principals of the firm are George Marantz, President; Michael Marantz, V.P., and Dianne Marantz, Secretary.
