Not THIS again! I thought this had been settled (several times) over the past several decades since Peter Fairchild’s passing. As Palm Springs grows outward, upward and closer together, the need for open space is more relevant than ever before. In fact, given that the government(s) insist upon a certain amount of green space per capita, it would benefit Palm Springs to take make the acquisition (or, at least, facilitate the purchase by a land trust) this land once and for all. Bel Air Greens has been basically unused for over 40 years now. It has become the safe habitat for much flora and fauna which we should cherish. Yet here we are again exploring plans to pave it over for parking lots, tall buildings and other edifices which demand water we don’t have and infrastructure which is sorely tested already. Please consider….again….the location of this space, its potential for the continuation of the inner-city trail system which was recently improved by the addition of the Tahquitz River wash. Our needs for the future health of this town are best-served by thoughtful decisions such as this one. Ron, Please do not insult my intelligence with half-hearted, lazy, politically correct word salad. It is easy to say words and then follow them with no action. For God’s sake, you still have not addressed my specific concerns. I know at least three other people who emailed you about Bob’s social media posts and your association with him. None of them received a response. That is not a coincidence or a simple communication failure. It is a deliberate decision. You also untagged Bob’s name from your social media post the day after those emails were sent in May. That is not a coincidence either. Let’s be honest. I need you to clearly and directly state how you, as the current mayor of Palm Springs, plan to address anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab, and Islamophobic hate and discrimination in this community. And no, the so-called “Human Rights Commission” will not suffice. Our experience with them has been of a well-meaning group that is disorganized, unqualified, and ineffective. Our “liaison” David even resigned out of shared frustration. So what will you do? You have visited a temple. Will you visit a mosque? An Arab-run church? Will you release a public statement? We need to know, and we need to know quickly. Enough with the political games. This is about the lives of our families and your constituents. Thank you for your time. Good morning Ron, I’m following up on the email I sent you nearly two months ago. You have chosen to ignore it. I know you read it because you quietly removed Bob Weinstein’s name from your social media post within a day of receiving it. He also deleted his posts shortly after, clearly tipped off. Regardless, I and other community members documented his content. We have screenshots and an eight-minute screen recording of his page before the deletions. At the time, I BCC’d the rest of the council. Today, I am CC’ing them so they are fully aware that you have failed to respond to a serious concern about public safety and your alignment with hate. Does anyone else have anything to say about this man’s vile and dangerous rhetoric and the fact that he was endorsed by our mayor? The same mayor who routinely walks past our peaceful weekly vigil without so much as a wave or a word. Face flushed red, avoiding eye contact completely. So no, I am not surprised you ignored my email. What is clear is that you are not concerned with how Muslims, Arabs, or Palestinians feel in this community. And let’s be honest. If the roles were reversed, we both know this silence would not exist. You seem more comfortable aligning yourself with Arab-hating and Islamophobic extremists than taking a public stance against the hate and discrimination we face. Let me be clear. Action is already being taken regarding Bob Weinstein and his law practice. If we do not hear from you with a direct response and a real plan to address racism, xenophobia, and Islamophobia in Palm Springs, we will take strong and public action against your office and anyone else in power who chooses silence. I think it’s truly great that you are showing up for the Jewish community during these hard times. The person who sent me this is a community member and a friend. They pointed out that the man tagged in your post Bob Weinstein is a xenophobic and Islamophobic extremist. I decided to take a look at his public Facebook page and was in shock. Not that someone could be so hateful, wrong and misleading, but that my Mayor endorses this person. The same Mayor who just said “Standing Against Hate in the Face of Heartbreak.” I want to give you the benefit of the doubt and believe you were not aware of the blatant and unacceptable rhetoric this person is spreading. However, I have not seen one post from you regarding the 9 year old Palestinian boy who was stabbed in Illinois. Or the Palestinian college students who were targeted and shot in Vermont. Also nothing about the attempted drowning of the 3 year old Palestinian girl in Texas. Those are all domestic tragedies you continue to be silent about. The selective empathy from our leaders is beyond obvious at this point. This in turn is causing more division and hurt within our beautiful city. Many members of the community do not feel safe, including myself. You and other council members have emboldened these extremists and their endless hate and discrimination. Please review the screenshots attached from Bob’s public Facebook page. Ron, you need to speak up about this. To say I’m disgusted would be an understatement. This man is not alone in his rhetoric. He is comfortable spreading easily debunked and dehumanizing propaganda like a Britain appointed leader for the Palestinians (who they did not know or want) that met with Hitler and co-conspired to create the holocaust. The same garbage Netanyahu once tried to pass off as truth and was quickly debunked by journalists and scholars. The purpose of this is to get you to dehumanize the Palestinians and it has historically worked. But not anymore. It’s bad enough that we’ve had to accept that our own community leaders have not spoken up about the constant starvation, slaughter and bombardment the Palestinians are going through by the unhinged psyhotic Israeli regime, but to publicly prop up someone like Bob is abhorrent and unacceptable. This is a big deal and not something that will go away quietly. We do not feel safe with this person in the community and especially when they're being endorsed by our Mayor. Dear Mr. Lyon, I am writing to voice my opinion/wish for the future of the vacant land that was once the Bel Air Greens Golf Course. I support its development into housing. I hope development occurs as soon as possible. Ironically, I am a huge supporter of Oswit Land Trust, and of the Prescott Preserve in particular. I think the Prescott Preserve is a wonderful public asset for the city, and I look forward to seeing it come together into “wildness”. I donate money to OLT, and that is how I heard about their opposition to development of 09/10/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda the Bel Air Greens property. I think OLT is wrong in their opposition of the development of the Bel Air property. In my opinion, they are wrong because: 1. The truth is we need more housing in the city of PS to help with affordability. The city shouldn’t be just for the wealthy. Even if the development is at a “higher” price point, it still will likely help with overall affordability. And, we don’t need sprawl. This project would not result in sprawl. On the contrary... 2. The property is close to shopping (Smoke Tree Village and Commons, and etc), schools, etc. Infrastructure is in/close by And, it’s close to the future west campus of the COD under construction. Also, our current shopping centers need more population to reach their full potential as built…we should not have so many vacant store fronts in our shopping centers. And most importantly: 3. The property is adjacent to the CV Link! And, of course, to the Prescott Preserve. As a hopeful Blue Zone City, which I am also excited about, don’t we want as many people as possible close to the CV Link…so that it’s conveniently accessible to as many people as possible. A caveat, though….the new homes, at least those that back up to the preserve, should be single level so views and nature are not disturbed. And, the city should require sidewalks and bike lanes…and lots of shade trees along the new streets, especially Mesquite, as I understand it would be the main arterial through the neighborhood. We can and should have both open space and close-in housing development. In my opinion, this land fits the bill for development into (single story) housing. It is its best use. I hope the city approves it, and does what it can to ensure that the new neighborhood is constructed in a timely fashion. On another related note, I also support the development of the proposed rental apartment buildings at the corner of Mesquite and Farrell for the same reasons I support housing at Bel Air Greens. I hope the city approves that project quickly, and ensures construction starts soon. Thank you for your time and service. Dear Mayor DeHarte, City Council Members, City Attorney Ballinger, and 09/10/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda Zoning Department, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed "Mixed Use 5 Stories" designation for the northeast corner of Sunrise Way and Tahquitz Canyon Way in the current draft zoning update. As a concerned resident and civic advocate, I urge you to reconsider this ill-conceived proposal that will cause irreparable harm to our established Sunrise Park neighborhood. This Rezoning Violates Basic Planning Principles For the first time since 1988, our city has the opportunity to thoughtfully update our zoning designations. However, the proposed 5-story development in this location represents poor planning that ignores the fundamental principle of compatible land use transitions. Critical Evidence - Please See Attached Images: 1.Rezoning Map: The attached zoning diagram clearly shows the areas marked in red that are slated for "Mixed Use 5 Stories" - these tower directly over existing single-family residential areas. 2.Satellite Image: The aerial view demonstrates that this is an established single- family neighborhood with consistent low-density housing patterns, swimming pools, and private yards that will be directly impacted. 09/10/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda Why This Proposal Will Devastate Our Community: Shadow and Light Impact Crisis: Because these proposed 5-story buildings are positioned to the SOUTH of existing homes, they will cast long, persistent shadows over neighboring properties for most of the day. This will rob families of natural light in their homes and backyards - spaces they've enjoyed for decades. Privacy Destruction: Five-story buildings will create direct sight lines into private backyards, pools, and homes. The satellite image shows how close these existing residential properties are to the proposed rezoning area. This is an unconscionable invasion of privacy. Traffic and Infrastructure Catastrophe: Our neighborhood streets were designed for single-family homes, not high-density mixed-use development. The inevitable parking overflow and traffic congestion will make our streets unsafe and unlivable. Character Annihilation: The stark contrast between 5-story buildings and single-family homes will destroy the neighborhood character that makes Sunrise Park special. This isn't smart growth - it's neighborhood destruction. Economic Impact: Property values will plummet as homes lose views, privacy, and sunlight. Longtime residents will bear the financial burden of this poor planning decision. 09/10/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda This Contradicts the City's Own General Plan, which should prioritize compatibility with existing neighborhoods and appropriate transitions between different land use intensities. Immediate Action Required: Since this is still a draft, we have a narrow window to demand changes. I urge you to: 1. Reduce the height limit to a maximum of 2-3 stories to better transition with existing homes 2. Require substantial setbacks from residential properties 3. Conduct shadow impact studies to understand the full scope of light deprivation 4. Mandate compatibility standards that respect neighborhood character The residents of Sunrise Park are not anti-development - we support thoughtful growth that enhances rather than destroys our community. But this proposal represents the worst kind of planning: dropping inappropriate density into an established residential area without regard for existing residents. I respectfully demand that you reject the current 5-story designation and work with the community to develop a more appropriate, compatible alternative. I look forward to your response and to seeing meaningful changes in the final zoning proposal. Specifically, the block that is formed by E Tahquitz, E Andreas, N Saturnmino, and N Luring. 09/10/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda I object to changing this area to Mixed Use Five Stories. I live in the immediate area and the addition of a five story building in that location would give people in those buildings a view into my backyard; destroying my privacy which I value greatly. I would no longer feel comfortable being outside, enjoying my yard and pool. I chose the location of my home to offer me privacy in a quiet, lovely neighborhood. The increased traffic from the increased density would negatively affect the quiet neighborhood of this part of Sunrise Park. We are already wondering what additional traffic will occur from the opening of the College of the Desert campus just down the road. Please take this into consideration and modify the proposal. I fear if the zoning is changed as proposed and five story buildings are in fact to built in that location, I will have to sell my home and possibly leave Palm Springs. This makes me sad, as I love it here, but with my privacy invaded, I will have no choice. We look forward to your response. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Molly Anderson, Executive Director 09/10/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda July 25, 2025 Dear Council Member Bernstein, We are writing as key stakeholders in Palm Springs’ vital tourism and hospitality industry to express our deep concern regarding the recent addition of the Labor Harmony Agreement (LHA) requirement to the new Palm Springs Convention Center management contract. It is troubling that this significant clause, which has broad implications for the business climate and visitor economy, was incorporated into the contract without prior notification or input from key stakeholders in the tourism sector. Our industry stands as one of the largest contributors to the city’s economic health, supporting thousands of jobs and generating substantial tax revenues that fund essential city services. While we recognize the importance of stable labor relations, the LHA introduces potential financial and operational risks for the Convention Center and the broader tourism industry. Knowing that our hospitality industry is very seasonal and our summer months see a drastic reduction in revenue, many in our community worry that this clause could inadvertently increase operational costs, create administrative burdens, and deter business opportunities for both the Convention Center and its partners. Furthermore, the lack of communication prior to the agreement’s adoption raises concerns about the transparency and inclusivity of the decision-making process. Palm Springs’ reputation as a premier destination depends upon cooperative relationships among city officials, business leaders, and community stakeholders. We encourage the Council to foster open dialogue on initiatives that can significantly impact our industry and to consider engaging with the tourism community to better understand our concerns and perspectives moving forward. While I recognize your intention to promote labor stability, the introduction of an LHA, particularly without prior dialogue with key industry stakeholders, raises serious concerns about the future economic vitality of our convention and tourism sector. Palm Springs thrives on collaboration between city leaders, business operators, and the hospitality community. The decision to insert an LHA without consultation weakens that cooperative foundation. There are several risks that come with adopting an LHA for the Convention Center: •Reduced Flexibility and Increased Costs LHAs often create rigid frameworks that limit the city’s ability to renegotiate terms or adapt to labor market shifts. They may also result in higher wages and benefits negotiated under union terms, creating cost pressures not only for the facility’s operators but also for surrounding hospitality businesses. •Operational Disruption Although LHAs are intended to prevent labor disputes, contentious negotiations or failed agreements can delay service delivery, especially during high-demand events. Even brief disruptions can lead to lost revenue, canceled bookings, and damage to the Convention Center’s reputation. •Economic Ripple E@ects The hospitality ecosystem depends on the stability and success of the Convention B.ysBytBtS Tublic homment zonJfgenda Center. Any interruption in its operations can a.ect hotels, restaurants, transportation services, and retail businesses, leading to declines in revenue and employment. • Reduced Vendor Participation Mandating LHAs may discourage qualified vendors or service providers from bidding on contracts due to the complexity of union negotiations. This could limit competition and innovation at the Center. Palm Springs has spent decades cultivating its reputation as a premier destination for both leisure and group travel. The convention business is essential to supporting the city’s year- round economic health, especially during o.-peak seasons. Any change that puts this dynamic at risk deserves a broader and more transparent public discussion. I respectfully urge you to reconsider support for the LHA requirement in its current form. I also encourage you to engage directly with the stakeholders who are most a.ected by this decision. Together, we can identify solutions that uphold labor harmony while protecting the strength and competitiveness of Palm Springs’ tourism industry. Dear Council Member Bernstein, As someone deeply involved in Palm Springs’ tourism and hospitality industry, I’m writing to share my concern about the recent addition of the Labor Harmony Agreement (LHA) requirement to the new Convention Center management contract. It’s concerning that such a major clause—one that carries significant implications for our business environment and the city’s visitor economy— was added without prior outreach to or input from those of us who are directly affected. Our industry plays a vital role in the local economy, supporting thousands of jobs and generating tax revenue that helps fund city services we all rely on. I absolutely understand the value of strong labor relations, but the LHA presents financial and operational uncertainties that could affect not just the Convention Center, but also the broader hospitality community. With our seasonal business cycles and the substantial drop in summer revenues, there’s concern this requirement could unintentionally raise costs, add administrative complexity, and make Palm Springs a less attractive option for certain events and partners. The lack of communication beforehand also raises questions about how decisions like this are being made and who gets a seat at the table. Palm Springs thrives when there’s strong collaboration between city leadership, local businesses, and community members. I respectfully urge the Council to prioritize transparent dialogue on issues that significantly impact our industry and to include tourism professionals in future conversations. Understanding our perspective can help shape policies that support—not hinder—our shared success. Thank you for your time and your continued dedication to Palm Springs. As a member of the Hyatt family, Thompson Palm Springs is proud to be part of this city’s vibrant hospitality and tourism economy. Our purpose is to care for people so they can be their best. Our colleagues are the heart of our business, and their wellbeing remains a top priority. Hyatt has a long history of cooperation with the unions that represent our colleagues across the country. We believe in the importance of open, respectful dialogue and have a track record of working constructively and collaboratively toward fair agreements. That is why we are concerned that a provision like the LHA, which carries potential operational and financial implications, was introduced without prior engagement with hospitality stakeholders. We recognize the intent of fostering labor stability. However, we are mindful of the unintended impact this requirement may have on the convention center’s competitiveness, especially given the seasonal nature of our market and the current pressures on our industry. Collaborative and transparent policymaking remains essential to achieving better outcomes for workers, businesses and the community alike.. We respectfully ask the Council to engage directly with the local hospitality community, including hotels like Thompson Palm Springs, to better understand our shared goals and ensure a thoughtful, inclusive approach moving forward. Thank you for your leadership and continued commitment to the economic vitality of the City of Palm Springs. We look forward to working together in support of a thriving, equitable future for all. While I recognize the importance of stable labor relations, the LHA introduces potential financial and operational risks for the Convention Center and the broader tourism industry. I encourage the Council to foster open dialogue on initiatives that can significantly impact our industry and to consider engaging with the tourism community to better understand our concerns and perspectives moving forward. Thank you for your attention to this important matter and your ongoing commitment to the prosperity of Palm Springs. Sincerely, Adam Q. Robinson General Manager, Twin Palms Resort 1930 S. Good evening, To Whom It May Concern: Subject: Request for Clarity and Fairness Regarding Reparation Package Settlement and Inclusion Criteria I am writing to formally express concern and seek clarification regarding the terms, administration, and inclusion criteria of the proposed or active reparation package settlement currently under review and/or implementation. "I respectfully request clarification on the basis of authority granted to the Section 14 group to represent the collective interest of all former residents of Section 14 in Palm Springs, California. Specifically, who authorized this group to act on behalf of the broader community, and through what process was this representation determined?" It has come to my attention that determinations regarding eligibility, disclosure, and distribution of reparations have been made_or are being made-without adequate transparency, representation, or participation from the full spectrum of individuals and communities historically and systemically impacted. This raises critical legal and ethical questions concerning fairness, equitable treatment, and due process. Specifically, I would like to understand: 1. Who has been granted the authority to determine eligibility for inclusion in the reparation settlement; 2. What criteria are being used to assess or exclude individuals or groups from the package; 3. What channels of representation and input were made available for impacted communities during the formation and approval of the settlement framework; 4. How issues of transparency, accountability, and historical accuracy are being addressed in determining reparative justice. It is essential that any settlement of this nature be grounded in a comprehensive and inclusive process that acknowledges the extent of harm endured and provides remedies proportionate to the losses experienced. A repartations process that lacks full stakeholder input, or excludes certain parties without just cause or recourse, undermines the integrity of its purpose and risks perpetuating the very inequities it seeks to redress. 09/10/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda I am therefore requesting a formal response outlining the procedural framework, legal basis, and representation mechanisms guiding this settlement. In the interest of justice, I also urge your office to ensure that any decisions regarding inclusion or disclosures are revisited with the utmost regard for fairness, historical context, and equitable participation. Please consider this letter a formal request for transparency and equitable involvement in the reparation settlement process. I am prepared to engage further through appropriate legal or civic channels should these concerns remain unaddressed. Kindly, O. Our pain is not less than yours. Our lives are not worth less. The blood of Arabs and Muslims that this country has spilled and profited from for decades will not be ignored as you benefit from it politically. We will not stay silent. Your refusal to respond is not neutrality. It is a choice. Do something. And do it now. We are watching, and we are done waiting. Sunny City clerk please also add this into Public record. Thank you. I was recently sent a social media post you posted of your visit to Temple Isiah regarding the tragic shooting of 2 Israeli embassy staffers. I think it’s truly great that you are showing up 09/10/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda for the Jewish community during these hard times. I know you are a busy man but you need to say and do something about this as soon as possible. PS: I've also attached a clip of just some of the harassment we face when protesting against the genocide in Gaza or doing our silent vigils. Though we mostly get support and praise from the community there's always one or two completely unhinged zionist that verbally attacks us. In the video the man screams "F### Gaza!" and "I hope they kill 50,000 more." This was unprovoked. City Clerk please add this into the public record.
