Hi Veronica.
I have a question to you or ? in advance of the hearing on 7/22.
I’m a bit confused as to the need of a hearing on this subject. If the city has clear noise ordinances/laws/codes
that an “entity” (i.e. The Surf Club) is required to comply with then why are we taking time out of the City
Council/Planning Commission/neighbors in the impacted neighborhoods schedule to discuss the lack of
compliance by The Surf Club?
It seems quite simple to me; either The Surf Club complies or they suffer the consequences. I’m not entirely
clear the escalating treatment-oral warning-written warning-fines-shutdown the business, etc….?
It is very clear to us neighbors that The Surf Club has zero intention of compliance and they are not being
administered consequences near enough to change their behavior. I put this entirely on the city for continuing to
allow them to behave this way and putting it on the neighbors to tolerate it.
Either they comply with the ordinances/codes/laws or they don’t “period”. Maybe the reason they don’t is
because the penalties are not near severe enough. It’s the definition of “insanity”; doing the same thing over and
over and expecting different results.
Please let me know if I’m missing anything here. If not, I feel like this hearing is nothing more than placating
the citizens. The perception of whether the City sees this as a priority is the number of times this subject has
been rescheduled.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and offer your thoughts.
Have a nice rest of your day.
