Re: Council Agenda Item 1-L, July 21,2025
Dear Councilmembers:
The Desert Business Association, the Desert’s LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce, wishes to
share its support for the proposed Arenas Business District Flagpole Project on the July 21,
2025, council agenda.
The installation of a Landmark Pride Flagpole in a City of Palm Springs partnership with
Greater Palm Springs Pride would serve as a powerful symbol of inclusion, visibility, and the
City’s ongoing commitment to celebrating our vibrant LGBTQ+ community.
The Arenas District is already recognized as the hub for LGBTQ+ business and the
community in-general, as well as a safe space for both residents and visitors. This project will
not only enhance that identity but also contribute to the area’s appeal and economic vitality. It
aligns with Palm Springs’ values of diversity, equity, and community pride, and will be a
welcoming symbol for the many residents, visitors and tourists coming to our town.
I encourage the Council to approve the license agreement and authorize the proposed
project to help bring this important project to life.
Thank you for your leadership and consideration of this project.
Sincerely,
David Powell
Executive Director

Good Morning,
As a resident of downtown and the GM of The Rowan and Chair of PS Resorts I urge you to
recommend entering into a license agreement with Palm Springs Pride for this landmark
flagpole. This is one more positive step toward solidifying our city for a safe space in the
LGBTQ+ community. It is a tribute to the LGBTQ+ rights movement and one now more than
ever we should highlight. This flag will serve as a symbol for so many things, it will enhance the
Arenas district drawing visitors from our Convention Center and downtown. It celebrates
Identity and inclusion, in a time that DEI is being rolled back, this flagpole will serve as a
symbol of hope for so many. It algins with the City goals to enhance economic development
through supporting an energetic downtown, It is a community partnership between the City
and Greater Palm Springs Pride.
I truly hope you support this wonderful Public/Private partnership, as a resident this flagpole is
something to be proud of and as a business leader this would be a visitor attraction.
Thank you for your time and consideration

Dear Mayor deHarte, Honorable Councilmembers, and City Staff,
As Chair of the Palm Springs Human Rights Commission, I am writing to express my
wholehearted support for the Arenas Business District Pride Flagpole Project, scheduled for
your consideration on July 21, 2025.
This project represents more than just the installation of a flagpole—it is a powerful
expression of identity, partnership, and civic pride. It is a tribute to the past 50 years of the
LGBTQ+ rights movement and a bold statement affirming our shared commitment to
freedom, equality, and inclusivity.
The Arenas District, long regarded as a cultural and social center for the LGBTQ+
community, is the ideal home for this monument. Strategically located to draw more visitors
from downtown and the Convention Center, the installation will enhance foot traffic, energize
local businesses, and serve as a welcoming symbol for all.
This project is aligned with the City Council’s strategic goals to support economic
development and enhance tourism. It directly complements the Palm Springs Economic
Development Strategic Plan’s commitment to LGBTQIA+ marketing for both tourism and
business travel—reinforcing the city’s position as a destination that celebrates diversity and
inclusion.
I respectfully urge the Council to approve this project and invite all residents, stakeholders,
and advocates to voice their support for this meaningful and historic endeavor.
With sincere gratitude,
Hugo Loyola
