CALL TO ORDER:
The Chair called the regular meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Chair Nelson, Vice Chair Rosenow, Bachman, Hansen, Herr, Moruzzi, Maschka
Hitchcock
Absent: None.
Staff Present: Sarah Yoon, Historic Preservation Officer & Associate Planner, Anthony Riederer,
Assistant Planning Director, Linda Ponce, Administrative Assistant.
REPORT OF POSTING OF AGENDA: Agenda available for public access at the City Hall exterior
bulletin board (west side of Council Chamber) by 6:00 P.M on Thursday, May 29, 2025, as required by
established policies and procedures.
ACCEPTANCE OF THE AGENDA:
Motion by Vice Chair Rosenow, seconded by Member Herr to accept the agenda.
AYES: Nelson, Rosenow, Bachman, Hansen, Herr, Moruzzi, Maschka Hitchcock.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Kitty Kieley Hayes, resident, commented on different possible factors that might enhance the presence of
the Avery Field Cabin Ruins under unfinished business.
Rob Bernheimer, representative to homeowners Dan Bridge and Julie Jorgensen, commented on different
aspects that could potentially impact the Avery Field Cabin Ruins under unfinished business.

Motion by Member Herr, seconded by Member Hansen to approve the minutes as amended.

LOCATED AT 1356 TAMARISK ROAD AND ASSOCIATED REVIEWS FOR POTENTIAL
RE-DESIGNATION OF A CLASS 4 SITE TO A CLASS 1 OR CLASS 2 HISTORIC RESOURCE
(APN #507-255-007) CASE: HDEMO 2025-0004 (SY)
RECOMMENDATION: Take no action and determine pursuant to CEQA that this action is not a
project.
C. A REQUEST BY KEVIN M. CASEY FOR DEMOLITION OF A CLASS 4 SITE LOCATED AT
1880 EAST AMADO ROAD AND ASSOCIATED REVIEWS FOR POTENTIAL RE-
DESIGNATION OF A CLASS 4 SITE TO A CLASS 1 OR CLASS 2 HISTORIC RESOURCE
(APN #502-035-014) CASE: HDEMO 2025-0005 (SY)
RECOMMENDATION: Take no action and determine pursuant to CEQA that this action is not a
project.
Motion by Member Herr, seconded by Member Maschka Hitchcock to approve to take no action on Item 1B
and Item 1C as recommended on the consent calendar.

NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.

2. PUBLIC HEARINGS: None.
3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A. A REQUEST BY SANTA ROSA PS, LLC FOR APPROVAL OF A CERTIFICATE OF
APPROPRIATENESS FOR ALTERATIONS TO THE AVERY FIELD CABIN RUINS, A
CLASS 1 (LANDMARK) HISTORIC SITE, LOCATED AT THE WEST END OF SANTA
ROSA DRIVE (APN #513-193-001) CASE: CAMJ 2025-0001 (SY)
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the project as proposed with conditions.
Staff member Yoon presented the staff report and answered questions of the Board.
Mark Temple, applicant, spoke and answered questions of the board regarding the proposed design and
context of the project.
Motion by Member Hansen, seconded by Vice Chair Rosenow to grant the Certificate of Appropriateness
to construct a detached single-family home with amended conditions stipulated in the staff report, and
recommendations to the Architectural Review Board (ARC) related to mass, scale, height, materials, and
landscape elements.
AYES: Nelson, Rosenow, Bachman, Hansen, Herr, Moruzzi.
NOES: Maschka Hitchcock.
ABSENT: None.

4. NEW BUSINESS:
A. A REQUEST BY PALM SPRINGS CEMETERY DISTRICT FOR APPROVAL OF A
CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR ALTERATIONS TO THE
WELWOOD MURRAY CEMETERY, A CLASS 1 (LANDMARK) HISTORIC SITE,
LOCATED AT THE CORNER OF WEST CHINO DRIVE AND VINE AVENUE (APN
#505-312-009) CASE: CAMI 2024-0011 (SY)
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the project as proposed with conditions.
Staff member Yoon presented the staff report and answered questions of the Board.
Kathleen Jurasky and Jeffrey Jurasky, applicants, explained the design choices for the columariums and
answered questions of the Board.
Motion by Member Hansen, seconded by Chair Nelson to grant the Certificate of Appropriateness to
construct three columbariums with a condition to select a stone material that is a closer match to the
existing historic wall.
AYES: Nelson, Rosenow, Bachman, Hansen, Herr, Maschka Hitchcock, Moruzzi.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
BOARD MEMBER REPORTS, REQUESTS AND COMMENTS:
Member Herr commented on the experience of the Plaza Theater construction tour and how the space may be
utilized for future HSPB events.
Member Moruzzi mentioned the historic significance of the Palm Springs Liquor Store by Albert Frey and the
Kitty Kollege building to be considered for designation at a future time.
Member Hansen thanked Chair Nelson and Vice Chair Rosenow for their years of service on the HSPB.
Vice Chair Rosenow shared his closing comments reflecting on his time on the board.
Chair Nelson delivered closing remarks and concluded by sharing a poem with the board.
STAFF COMMENTS:
Staff member Yoon thanked the Chair and Vice Chair for their service and reminded the board about the joint
City Council meeting at the Palm Springs Convention Center on June 17th.
ADJOURNMENT: The Historic Site Preservation Board adjourned at 8:31 p.m. to its regularly scheduled
meeting on Tuesday, July 1 2025, at 5:30 p.m., in the Large Conference Room at City Hall.
