Dear City Council, I fully support the proposed low-water crossing project on Arenas Canyon. We've personally experienced being stranded outside our home due to flooding at the intersection, so this improvement is both necessary and long overdue. I’d also like to highlight the urgent need for a cellular tower in the area. The lack of reliable cell service poses serious safety concerns for residents who are unable to call for help in emergencies. Hi Everyone - I also wanted to send this email to the Human Rights Commission, but I couldn't find a direct email address. If the City Clerk could forward this to them, it would be much appreciated. I'm writing to all of you because of the recent local encounters with ICE. Don't you think you should inform your local residents (legal or not) about their rights if they encounter or are detained by ICE? I have attached some information I received on social media that could be used as samples for a template. I'm also curious as to what local police will do if someone is being detained/questioned by ICE. It's my understanding that if a resident calls the local police while confronted by ICE at their home or on the street, residents (legal resident or not, you're not allowed to ask) can call the police and ask local police to verify the validity of the warrant. Only signed, judicial warrants allow for the search of a home, car, or person, is what I understand. My question to our local police is, will you stop an unlawful search and seizure if ICE doesn't have a signed, judicial warrant? I'd like the answer in writing. A yes or no answer will do, not a word salad that doesn't really answer the question. -- Thank you, Jane Dodd 760-799-4799 06/25/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda 06/25/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda 06/25/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda 06/25/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda 06/25/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda 06/25/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda 06/25/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda From:Ron deHarte To:Christine Vendredi; Alyssa Chavez; City Clerk; Scott Stiles; Cindy Cairns Cc:MarJon Hudson; Leslie Stewart Subject:Re: Thursday Nights Reporting Date:Monday, June 23, 2025 7:26:37 PM Hi Christine, Thank you for this update and for the commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents through the arts. In light of working through a $10 Million budget deficit we have to tighten our belt. How much is being spent on Thursday night live music, performances, community takeovers, films, and unique programming such as Black History Month celebrations, Cocktail Cinema, and Mixed Feelings? Pausing these events in a deficit years and continuing free admission might be the prudent approach. I'm supportive of the $360,000 gift for the elevator but remain concerned about $300,000 for the Thursday night programming. Our city events are being cut $300K over the next two years. Dear Mayor, Councilmembers, and Esteemed City Officials, On behalf of the Palm Springs Art Museum, I want to extend our sincere gratitude for your steadfast support of our Free Thursday Nights program. Your continued partnership has helped make the museum more accessible, more inclusive, and more deeply connected to the community than ever before. Thanks to your investment, both of our downtown locations, the main museum and the Architecture and Design Center—open their doors free of charge every Thursday night, welcoming locals and visitors to experience art, culture, and community. From July 1, 2024, through May 19, 2025, Thursday Night attendance alone reached over 54,000, a 7.6% increase from the previous year. These evenings offer far more than admission—they feature live music, performances, community takeovers, films, and unique programming such as Black History Month celebrations, Cocktail Cinema, and Mixed Feelings. Many guests describe Thursday Nights as their first experience at the museum, one that often leads to repeat visits, deeper engagement, and membership. In total, the museum has welcomed over 200,000 visitors this year, a testament to the vibrancy of our programs and the growing community we serve. That number does not include the additional thousands who participate in events through key partnerships such as Modernism Week and the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which bring high-impact cultural programming to our Annenberg Theater and museum spaces. We’re proud that the City of Palm Springs is recognized and celebrated across all Free Thursday Night promotions—from printed materials and museum signage to e- newsletters, weekly social media posts, and public acknowledgments at each event. Your support doesn’t just help sustain the program—it strengthens the City’s reputation as a leader in cultural access and innovation. As we look to the future, we are eager to build on this momentum. We hope the City of Palm Springs will continue its vital support, enabling us to keep Free Thursday Nights thriving as a beloved, inclusive tradition for all who call the Coachella Valley home. Hello: I attended the 5.29.25 Community Meeting re: the South Palm Canyon Low Water Bridge Project. I live way up in Andreas Hills on Bogert Trail and am concerned that this project may divert too much water onto the low-lying areas of Bogert Trail near where it intersects with South Palm Canyon. There were no Engineers present at the 5.29.25 Community Meeting to explain what happens to all that water once it goes under the newly proposed bridge on South Palm Canyon. This is a very important part of this project as there may be a substantial amount of water if there is rainfall generated by a 100 year storm! Does the water flood the golf course ponds? Does the water make its way to the Bogert wash about a quarter of a mile East- if so, how? Or does the water flood Bogert Trail? In general I support this already funded project providing your engineers can explain what happens to all that water once it is East of the newly proposed bridge. Thank you. You also know there is only shaded bus stops on the opposite side of the street. There doesn't need to be a study! Plz apply common sense. You have a population of seniors in PS, yet this goes ignored Dap should not influence the access to shade, as the bus stop has already been relocated further down the street. Hello Everyone - I have heard multiple times at the Community Hate Crime meeting last December and at the No Kings Rally in Palm Springs recently, how the City of Palm Springs is not assisting ICE in their deportations/kidnapping of Palm Springs residents. Deportation without due process is just kidnapping, especially when officers of the LAW aren't identifying themselves and showing ID, or have a warrant. It's happening now on your turf, and they're staying in our hotels. Real action is not just standing on a stage and giving heartfelt, pretty-sounding speeches. Real action is going to make people uncomfortable, and it's going to disturb people's nice vacations in town. Demonstrations need to be noisy and make ICE not want to be here, if our police force is doing nothing to stop them. The bare minimum we can do is keep them up at night and maybe make them think twice about sleeping in our City while they demolish our Constitutional Rights (and our country). Otherwise, our City will be complicit in yet another ethnic cleansing, but with far more dire consequences this time than Section 14. Do you think they'll stop with only going after immigrants? Immigrants are just the low-hanging fruit and easy targets. Even if you want to admit it or not, many of us of the privileged (aka white) class think that they are just lawbreakers, and might deserve what they're getting. Following the "law" is what the Germans believed they were doing as well. Please don't be an accomplice and turn on those trying to protect their families and friends, as well as YOUR residents. We all need to do more than say "Trump bad" and wave creative posters with catchy phrases. -- Thank you, Jane Dodd 760-799-4799 06/25/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda From:Amado C Salinas II To:City Clerk Subject:Fwd: POW/MIA Flag Ediqutte Date:Tuesday, June 17, 2025 11:14:42 AM NOTICE: This message originated outside of The City of Palm Springs -- DO NOT CLICK on links or open attachments unless you are sure the content is safe. Hello City Council Members - I'm sending this letter, which was originally a public comment I was going to give on June 11th, at the last council meeting which went too late (it was past my bedtime!). I don't think I can make the next meeting, so I'm sending it instead. It's a 2-minute read: I’m here today to thank the Human Right’s Commission for inviting local CodePink Members to provide comments and express our concerns over LOCAL RESIDENTS treatment by the city and community, who are of Palestinian, Syrian, or Lebananese descent and have family and loved ones living in those areas, who are either living, dead, or displaced. Several commissioners were moved by our statements, which should be included in the minutes. Our issues fell under the category of “intergroup tensions”. They had been instructed by the City Attorney that they could not speak on issues involving “international politics”. I find it funny that they were told that, since the City Council issued their hastily made emergency resolution in support of Israel, less than a week after October 7th, 2024. The resolution was nothing but a political dog whistle for the community to support one side unconditionally, and allowed those with differing views and perspectives to be labeled “terrorist supporters” in the community and silenced. International human rights groups have called it a genocide. Yet, the emergency resolution still stands, with no condemnation of a genocide of a population that is roughly 60% children. Our Human Rights Commission found it difficult even being able to even define what we were talking about. Everyone seems to know and understand the term, anti- semitism, but couldn’t seem to define what we were talking about. It’s called “islamophobia,” my friends! Let's discuss “local” issues and the Hate-Crime Community meeting on December 4, 2024, led by Chief Andy Mills, with council members, staff, and our new state senator in attendance. While I spoke, I was called a terrorist supporter by a PS resident in the audience, who I know by name. When I said, “Any time I speak of what’s happening and call it what it is, a genocide, I am labeled a terrorist supporter….”, she interjected out loud, “That’s because you are”. Nothing was said to her, and everyone could 06/25/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda hear, including those on stage. So please don’t pretend that this is NOT a local issue, it is, and you’ve seen and heard it with your own eyes and ears. PS: I also found it funny on Sunday at the "No-Kings" protest when Chief Andy Mills said he "was not being political" speaking that day. I'm not sure how you couldn't be.... -- Thank you, Jane Dodd 760-799-4799 06/25/2025 Public Comment Non-Agenda From:City of Palm Springs To:City Clerk Subject:*NEW SUBMISSION* Submit Public Comment to the City of Palm Springs Date:Friday, June 13, 2025 6:39:38 AM NOTICE: This message originated outside of The City of Palm Springs -- DO NOT CLICK on links or open attachments unless you are sure the content is safe.
