In reference to Item 2A 2395 Pebble Beach Drive Historic Designation Dear Commissioners, This letter is in public support of the Historic Designation application for 2395 Pebble Beach Drive. I am a graphic designer, owner of a William Krisel home, resident of Palm Springs for 10 years, active member of the Palm Springs Architectural Alliance, and producer of numerous Modernism Week events. I was also a professor of graduate design at New York’s Pratt Institute for over two decades. This property aligns with the goals of the City’s Class 1 Historic Sites for many reasons: 1. The home was designed by Donald Wexler, one of the City’s most prominent midcentury architects and a key figure in the development of the Palm Springs School of Architecture. 2. The home is amazingly intact and sensitively restored and cared for by the current residents, exhibiting some truly unique details such as the rock facade and exterior wood detailing, the large floor to ceiling glass wall on the side of the living room, the extraordinary fireplace, and the compact but clever floor plan. 3. The home was built as part of a tract of modest homes for the City’s growing middle class. Many Class 1 sites are luxury homes with no expense spared, but this home shows how clever design can be affordable and done in multiples with variations in style to create an attractive development. 4. This home is significant as it is in the last group developed by the Alexanders, who were responsible for so much of Palm Springs’ quality midcentury homes. 5. The sophisticated design by Wexler is timeless, proven by the fact that this neighborhood has been newly rediscovered and property values are increasing significantly. 6. The City should applaud the quality of design, attention to detail, and significance of this home—as well as the care and stewardship by the current owners. Thank you for your consideration of this application. photo Tom Dolle | Creative Director 917-902-4252 | www.dolledesign.com | tdolle@dolledesign.com
