AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE PALM SPRINGS
MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 11.44 MODIFYING SIGNAGE
POSTING REQUIREMENTS AT PARKS AND RECREATION
AREAS.
City Attorneys Summary
This Ordinance amends the Palm Springs Municipal Code to
modify signage posting requirements at parks and recreation
areas from every one hundred feet to requiring signs at main
entrances and at the City Manager's or their designee's
discretion.
THE CITY COUNCIL FINDS AND DETERMINES AS FOLLOWS:
A. On July 25, 2024 the Palm Springs City Council adopted Ordinance No.
2099 relating to regulating encampments and sleeping on public property; and
B. Ordinance No. 2099 prohibits unauthorized encampments and sleeping
upon any public property, including any street, sidewalk, park, open space, waterway,
and banks of a waterway, unless specifically authorized by the City Manager, and
C. City staff has begun the process of updating signage at park and recreation
areas providing the public with notice of the regulations of Ordinance No. 2099; and
D. Currently, Chapter 11.44 requires signage to be posted every one hundred
feet, and staff has found that this would burden the use of park and recreation areas; and
E. This ordinance is a technical update to the City's Municipal Code amending
specific sections of Chapter 11.44 to require signage at the main entrances of park and
recreation areas and at the City Manager's or their designee's discretion.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS
DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Code Amendment. Section 11.44.030(c)(5) of the Palm Springs
Municipal Code relating to Exclusion of public from specific areas is hereby amended to
read as follows:
"91.44.030(c)(5). (5) Signs sha# be posted every one hundred Aget Signs

SECTION 2. Code Amendment. Section 11.44.040(h)(5) of the Palm Springs

read as follows:
"11.44.040(h)(5). (5) Signs
shall be posted at main entrances and at the City Manager's or their designee's discretion;
and"
SECTION 3. Code Amendment. Section 11.44.080(b)(5) of the Palm Springs
Municipal Code relating to Exclusion of public from specific areas is hereby amended to
read as follows:
"11. 44. 080(b)(5). (5) Signs
shall be posted at main entrances and at the City Manager's or their designee's discretion;
and"
SECTION 4. Certification. The Mayor shall sign, and the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage and adoption of this Ordinance and shall cause the same, or the summary
thereof, to be published and posted pursuant to the provisions of applicable law; this
Ordinance shall take effect thirty (30) days after passage.
