Entire PS Community, Individuals with Disabilities,LGBTQ+, Seniors 6. Estimated project cost: $499,810.00 7. Short description of proposed project. Eisenhower Health has recently acquired the complex at 1111 E Tahquitz Cyn, thanks to the generosity of a donor. The 8,000sf Building C will be renovated with the help of Measure J funds to house 2 new clinics designed to bring much-needed cancer and cardiology care closer to the heart of Palm Springs. Last year patients from PS made 3,838visits to the Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center's infusion facility in Rancho Mirage. Right now access to comprehensive infusion services in the West Valley are limited often leading to delays and added stress for patients. By opening a local infusion center we will make life a little easier at a difficult time, offering treatments close to home and improving care and patient compliance by making it more accessible. Patients will have access to highquality care close to home. Initially, both clinics will be open 2 days/week. Eventually we’ll offer 5,500 infusion appointments, 5 days/wk and also care for 300+ cardiology patients right here in PS. Dear Melissa, Eisenhower Health is grateful to you and the Measure J Oversight Commission for the opportunity to submit more details surrounding our Application for Community Initiated Project funds, submitted on September 26, 2024. Our new Health Center at 1111 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way will enable us to provide life-saving cancer and cardiology care closer to our patients who live and work in Palm Springs. Attached to this email are the following, to provide substantial details about the equipment being purchased and the scope of the project. As you can imagine, since September, the scope, plan and cost of the project has already changed. Additional information submitted on the 1111 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, Bldg C. It is unfortunate that Eisenhower is unable to access funds from DHCD to help with this project. The Measure J Commission’s willingness to help fund CIP’s is timely and deeply appreciated and will benefit the community in substantial ways. Thank you again for allowing Eisenhower Health the opportunity to share additional information with you to assist in your decision-making process. This facility would meet the increasing demand for specialized infusion therapies, improving patient care and fostering overall community health. Need for an Infusion Center The prevalence of chronic illnesses, autoimmune diseases, and certain cancers is rising in our area. Currently, access to comprehensive infusion services in the west valley is limited, resulting in treatment delays and higher healthcare costs. A local infusion center would provide essential therapies for conditions in neurology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, pulmonology, endocrinology and hematology/oncology. Services Provided The Palm Springs infusion center would provide the following services to patients: intravenous infusions, including chemotherapy, biologics and immunotherapy, electrolytes, and hydration; subcutaneous and intramuscular injections; therapeutic phlebotomy and phlebotomy procedures; and clinical trial medications. Patient Demographics In FY 2024, the Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center infusion centers served 507 unique patients from the Palm Springs area, totaling 3,838 visits. Each patient typically drove around 11 miles, taking about 25 minutes one way, resulting in over 50 minutes for a round trip. This amounts to approximately 3,200 hours spent driving to and from infusion appointments per year. Community Benefits Having a local infusion center would significantly benefit Palm Springs and its surrounding areas by increasing access to care. Residents would no longer have to travel long distances for critical treatments, reducing both transportation costs and burdens. Local access would allow patients to receive the high-quality care Eisenhower Health is known for in a familiar environment, enhancing compliance with treatment plans. Care would be provided in a calm, sterile setting by certified nurses, advanced practice providers, and board-certified physicians who monitor patients closely throughout their treatment journey. This collaborative approach helps patients manage their conditions effectively and achieve the best health outcomes. Additionally, the center would stimulate economic growth by creating jobs for healthcare professionals and support staff. Projected Volumes The Palm Spring infusion center would initially be open two days per week, adding additional days as volumes increase. The goal would be to open five days per week by year four. Projected volumes are as follows: Year 1 (2 days/week) Year 2 (3 days/week) Year 3 (4 days/week) Year 4 (5 days/week) Year 5 (5 days/week) 1300 2250 3250 4350 5500 Staffing Needs The Palm Springs infusion center staffing needs would include the following: Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) Medical Assistant/Certified Phlebotomy Technicians (MA/CPT), Scheduling Coordinators (SC), and Advanced Practice Providers (APP). Staffing needs would increase to support patient volume year over year. Enhanced access to care would lead to better adherence to treatment regimens and improved health outcomes. Timely infusion therapies would reduce reliance on emergency services and ease the strain on local hospitals. Patients would benefit from improved health and quality of life due to accessible treatments. In summary, an infusion center in Palm Springs would serve as a vital community resource, transforming lives by providing essential care without unnecessary barriers.
