Applicant’s information: Name of Contact Person: Jane Dodd Contact Person’s Phone Number:(760) 799-4799 Contact Person’s Email Address: pswomansclub@gmail.com PS Woman’s Club Measure J Grant Application Questions Project Name and Location Solar Installation for the Palm Springs Woman’s Club,314 S.Cahuilla Road,Palm Springs,CA 92262 Provide a detailed description of the concept and benefits of your proposal We propose that the Measure J Grant cover half of the cost of adding solar to our Clubhouse. We have a bid estimate from Sunlogix for a total cost of $65,885.This would include: ●23 solar panels ●A Powerwall 2 Tesla Battery (back-up) ●25-year warranty The Palm Springs Woman’s Club has been a non-profit organization in the community for over 85 years and was started by City founders such as Pearl (McCallum)McManus and Nellie Coffman. The land for our building, built in 1938,was donated by Pearl McManus and the building itself is historically significant, located in the Downtown Tennis Club District. Our Mission Goal is intellectual improvement, social enjoyment, and helpfulness in the community.Since 2009 we have provided roughly $350,000 in college scholarships to Palm Springs High School students, and donated to various local charities,e.g.,Shelter from the Storm,The Assistance League Coachella Valley,Martha’s Village,Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, etc. We currently have 160 Members. The Clubhouse serves not only its Members, but the community as a whole. The building contains a stage, full kitchen, and patio area.It can accommodate events for up to 200 people and is frequently rented for special events, weddings, and theatre/performance productions.Dezarts Performs,a professional theatre company, has been using our facility since 2011 and renewed for the 2024-2025 season. The cost of maintaining an 85-year old building continues to rise over the years, but through our membership fundraising efforts we have been able to cover major expenditures. Our goal has been to keep our building highly maintained and updated, as well as keeping the property environmentally and economically sustainable. In recent years,we replaced our front landscaping with water-friendly desert landscaping. This year,we replaced the patio grass with artificial turf.Last summer we upgraded our bathrooms to be ADA compliant. The air-conditioning units have also been updated recently and are energy efficient. The roof is not original and has been replaced. Our carpet and flooring were in great need of replacement and we recently raised enough to cover the cost.We currently do not have enough in house maintenance funds to cover the entire cost for solar. By having solar,we will reduce our environmental footprint and help improve the quality of life for our Members and those who use our facility. It will keep the cost down for rentals and our Membership dues by saving money on electricity. The demographics of our Membership is varied with many elderly Members on fixed incomes.Keeping our costs down allows our Members to participate more fully in our events. We may also be able to host additional events in the hotter summer months when the electricity costs currently make it prohibitive. Describe and identify any substantive discussions or endorsements you have developed with City staff, commissions,or volunteer groups to shape your proposal and to identify any potential duplication of efforts We have spoken with Dan MacAllister,a Building Official, who informed us that we will need an electrical permit before installing solar. Design/Consulting Costs -N/A Equipment/Materials Costs -The solar bid from Sunlogix does not break down parts &labor costs. The total is $65,885 Construction Costs (identify cost allocation for major trades,if available)- The solar bid from Sunlogix does not break down parts &labor costs. The total is $65,885 Insurance Cost -No additional insurance should be required. Our liability policy on the property should cover the project. We can add the City as an additional insured if need be. Other Fees -N/A Contingency -N/A Total -$65,885 Project Duration, including lead time to order materials and mobilize contractors-We estimate that once a solar company is chosen and a contract is signed, the project should take three months (or less)to complete. Designated Project Manager -Kathy Block &Raphie Machado (House Chairs)and Kitsy Adams (President) For organizational implemented grants, identify your other funding sources to complete the project and the percentage of total this represents Every year,we sponsor numerous events (lunches, teas, special events)that fund our House Account for major maintenance and expenses. We have reserves for long-term building maintenance, but not all of this money can be used for a project this size.We recently replaced all the tile and carpet in the Clubhouse,so our reserves are currently lower than normal.
