A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE
ACCEPTANCE OF A SAFE STREETS FOR ALL GRANT IN
THE AMOUNT OF $776,000 FROM THE UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR A
COMPREHENSIVE SAFETY ACTION PLAN; AND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR DESIGNEE TO
EXECUTE ANY NECESSARY DOCUMENTS RELATED TO
THE GRANT PROGRAM AND FUNDING
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Transportation ("USDOT') makes
available federal funding for cities and regions to pursue transportation planning
initiatives that improve roadway safety and prevent deaths and serious injuries on
America's urban and rural roads via the Safe Streets for All ("SS4K) Grant program;
and
WHEREAS, the SS4A program will provide $5 billion over 5 years to fund
community -led projects that address the preventable crisis of deaths on our nation's
roads, streets, and highways through safer people, roads, and vehicles; and
WHEREAS, the City of Palm Springs has committed to a safe transportation
system for all users through the Pedestrian Master Plan, Roadway Safety Plan, General
Plan, and numerous operational efforts;
WHEREAS, transportation emissions represent the single largest source of
greenhouse gas emissions in the City of Palm Springs; and
WHEREAS, improving safety for all road users to support the reduction in use of
fossil -fuel passenger vehicles is critical to meeting the City's emissions targets; and
WHEREAS, the City of Palm Springs was provisionally awarded funding under
the USDOT SS4A Grant program in the amount of $776,000 to generate a
Comprehensive Safety Action Plan; and
WHEREAS, a Grant Agreement is needed to be executed with USDOT before
such funds can be allocated through the SS4A Grant Program; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to accept the funds from the USDOT SS4A
Grant Program to be used for the stated planning purpose; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to,direct the City Manager (or designee) to
authorize any necessary documents to accept the grant funds and to meet the grant
requirements;
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. The above recitals are all true and correct. ,
SECTION 2. The City of Palm Springs hereby accepts the award of the USDOT SS4A
Grant Program funds in the amount of $776,000 to be used for the stated planning
purposes.
SECTION 3. The City Manager, or designee, is hereby authorized and empowered to
execute in the name of the City of Palm Springs all grant documents, including but not
limited to, applications, agreements, amendments and requests for payment, necessary
to secure grant funds and implement the approved grant project.
SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption the City
Council, and the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution
and enter it into the book of original resolutions.
